I know they are never used for a reason, but has anyone gotten a veteran fire bomb thrower yet? And if so, could you clue me into the upgrades available for it.

Bring an all vet army with a blank one and micro it like you would a matchlock on the flank and you should get some good kills from it.
Vet bonuses are your typical ranged ones, 3-4 accuracy, reload speed, 2 increased range, kisho training, replenish, blinding grenades.
So a high vet fire bomb thrower can infact become naffatun from med 2, and i can see them being more useful in the role ninja's currently play once vetted.
Ranged increase is +10, no 100 range throwers. but the +10 is very welcome and noticable.

Increased range and reload speed. Never throw over the head of your units to hit something they are fighting unless their units are worth a lot more. Bomb throwers target the units at the very front of the formation and will kill your own guys if you're not careful.
I've seen them like once or twice, did crap all both times, even a full leadership GB can break them with one charge.
fallen is right. If the unit was changed so that they targeted the middle of the unit and not the closest individual to them, then they would be able to be used effectively. Once you throw one round of grenades you have to run around and throw grenades at the backs of the enemy engaged in a melee. Even after all the due dilligence, you may not get a second lob off as you are between his troops in melee and his archers + general + reserve. Ninjas can throw 2 rounds (initial and flank), move faster, have more men, can throw the grenades without being targeted by archers (stealth) and stand their ground in a melee at the cost of reduced range and a retainer.
This might fit well into my current matchlock strategy since I already send those units to the flanks the moment the opportunity presents itself.
Ive seen amp use these in a few games recently, havent took a shine to them myself tho.

I think any situation in which fire bombers could be used, a unit of matchlocks would do a better job.
