Default Need desperate help in Multiplayer.

I want to become a great general in multiplayer, using my infantry in the right way, getting the right armies and etc...

However, i suck, i have watched Heir of Carthage's videos and got a basic idea of how to play, but that isnt enough.

    Should i use Match Making?

I just bought the game so im completely new, my steam username is Xxkostas84xX , if someone wants to add me and tell me tips, tricks and teach me a few things ill gladly accept, can you help a man rise to glory?

In my first battle, i was Austria, and when i was about to win against a completely new player, the game suddenly went to the main screen and i didnt do anything, is he a coward and he alt+f4'd his way to not get a loss?

Can you help a newbie rise to power? Can you help him in his thirst for strategical knowledge about the game? Please help me.

If you need anything, such as a replay, just ask.

I am thinking of using Spain - because with the right tactics and strategy, they can destroy any army.

    Thanks for reading fellow Generals!

Only use Spain in med fund battles. For every other battle use France or Prussia, then you should win most battles.

twreplays has some great videos specifically for new players showing you how to organise your army. I'd stick with GB, France or Prussia to start with and you'll have to get used to occaissional crashes. It doesn't always mean the other player has quit.

This really sucks, i always lose, even after ive watched the videos, it doesnt happen like in the videos, my units are always, always weaker for some reason and they always lose, plus, when i try to Flank, the enemy just flanks me from the other side and i lose, its very stupid.

I am a new player too and I could use any help by better players. I think I lack in micro since NTW is the first TW game I've played online, so most of the time I'm lost during battles. I have watched some of jmartin's and pointman's videos but with my micro skill knowing how to, doesn't help that much. If anyone is willing to spend some time playing a few games against a noob plz add me. My steam profile is http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198039417481

@stemm and kosta84 u have to practice, practice, practice. getting to be a half decent player doesnt happen overnight. most players if they are truthfull lost quite a few times when they first played, myself included. the vids help to give u a tactical grasp but cant replace experience.
so keep playing and learn from ur mistakes and u will improve...

There's no magic bullet for success. Like Trip says the key is practise against online opponents. You won't learn anything against ai. Even those of us who have been playing for a while will get defeated. Particularly if you've not played for a few weeks. You get rusty. Plus there are so many different strategies out there, so you have to treat each opponent with respect. You might think you've developed a killer formation etc until you come up against someone who does something you've not seen before. You have to be able to adapt and have a plan b or c if necessary. There's a big difference between 1v1 and group games and i'd be tempted to stick with 1v1 until you develop your skills. In addition to watching twreplays etc save your own replays and watch them again. Even if you lost you can see what you did right and what you did wrong and look closely at what your opponent was doing.

    This.

At one point my record in multiplayer was 10-90. You have to lose a lot and watch your replays. Playing but not thinking about what you're doing and trying to find how to improve will result in no growth.

One other thing I recommend is pick one army build and use that exclusively for a while. This helped me a lot. When you know exactly what units you have and where they are that frees some space in your mind to think about other things.

Oh, and play against the best opposition possible.

ive added you in steam - so lets play a few games - a big part of learning to play better IMO would be to play exclusively britian and use little or no cav to start with line and lights are the go till you get a better at unit movement and tactics. once you think you cav mastered line and lights start introducing light cav to you britian build adding one cav unit at a time. till you get to about 5 cav. Then play more games without cav. you should then realise the importance of cav in winning and the point of going back and playing without cav is to make you realise those moments you wished you had cav. after this you should have a great feel for the importance of each unit type and have a better understanding of when you need things to happen. Then move on to Prussia then maybe france and work your way through the other nations. if something is not working cut back on cav and get use to line and lights for that nation. dont expect to win every game till you get use to playing the major nations well. after you play all the nations you should be able to get a feel of which nation to use to counter your opponents nation.

i have taught many players to play and this is by far the best way to learn. even when you get good - realise that you will have bad times when things just dont work like they should and you feel like your playing . Then go back and start again with no cav and build back up.

all the guys who posted here are some of the games finest players so you will also learn something different from each one.

the other thing is - you wont get better if you dont move and attack - like JM points out in one of his vids - you wont learn counters if you sit and wait to get attacked - in every game i play after 2 mins i can tell if im going to have a close game or just steamroll my opponent. and this is primarially from my opponents inital moves. if you dont move i will destroy you in record time. I love to try to better my quickest kill.

and dont get hung up on your micro - get the basics right - and micro will improve.
