Did anyone get the Shogun 2 game with the Chess set?

I discovered kinda late that there was a version of Shogun 2 with a Chess set of the units, Samurais, geicha as queen, etc, etc. I like this idea quite a lot and it would be nice to actually hold onto something not chained to by Steam. Hell, I could even play Chess with my friends or even daughter - Steam free!

So has anyone got the chess version of Shogun 2? Is it a decent board? Decent pieces?

I have the chess set and it is very nice - the figures are all hand-painted, however some details have been rushed on some areas of the soldiers. However, it is overall a very nice set. It has a strange plastic-y smell though

^Did you have blotchy details and smack-dash paint jobs on your figures? One of my Kings had black paint over his torso and head...luckily I had some paints to clear it up, but it is still a decent set. Might sell it on Ebay for $100 or something too haha

Its not magnetic and its not small,i was expecting 20x20cm and its 40x40cm

got the chess board too. sucky framerate and no dx11, really simple map, all you see is squares, low unit variety (both factions have the same units with slightly different skins), no innovative gameplay,its like playing a medieval game.

Yeah I got the chess set as well and was really surprised by its quality. Very decent build bord, the figures are really nice painted and very 'japanese shogunate' feel. I'm not really that much of a chess player, but even as game merchandise its awesome to have.

Plus single player is completely borked. The AI just sits there no matter what I do. I've given up on single player and now only do mp.

Don't forget the fact that realm divide started right away. No room for diplomacy, whatsoever.

Matchmaking is completely broken!!! I sat there for hours and didn't get matched up with anybody... Where is the [Search] button?!?!

Many of these issues should be fixed in the next patch.

I don't have the chess set myself, but I can assume that a game takes about 1 minute and by the end one player has barely lost anything and the other is completely destroyed.

I like steam, and chess. Too bad I didn't know about the chess version. I do wish steam would have all the different editions available, and I also wish companies would stop with the different promotional items depending on where you buy the game. That is VERY annoying.

Amazon doesn`t have it up either. I found out cos I saw a picture of a chessset in STW2 after a little digging around.

I really, really hate the idea of having TWO identical Steam games because I didn`t know about the Chess Set. Now without Steam, I could`ve sold my other version in a second hand shop or given it away to a friend, but if I get another Shogun 2 just for the chess set I am now screwed out of £17 or if you look at it another way maybe more like £30-40..

Really, it`s like I said before and sorry to harp on about it, but this whole Steam thing suits only companies like SEGA and CA, not the customer. CA\SEGA probably have near doubled their profits just because of this aspect of Steam-

No wonder they won`t make it optional.

It`s the only thing putting me off getting the chess set version which I really like the idea of. Thanks anyway everyone for your impressions.

You can gift the game to another user through Steam if you end up with multiple copies.
