Default I want to mod my game...

I'd like to completely mod my game, I mean everything in the files to make it better tha it already is. For instance.

    • Rename some of the factions, (if possible)
    • Make my own units,
    • Edit the size of maps and add new settlements,
    • Maybe change the game music,
    • Add new factions? (if possible)
    • And much more...

I have photoshop so I'd be willing to put in alot of work is someone told me how too do it.

O and nice site you got here

Moved to the mod worshop, all questions should be posted there. And i warn you that it is a lot of work you will need to do if you want to do all those changes.

    Firstly, faction limit is hardcoded.

These tutorials should help you - these are all in the tutorials section i found them in under 5 minutes myself. There are more there

    Welcome to twcenter! :original:
It's possible to do all the things you mentioned, but it'll be a lot of work. If you want a completely modded RTW, why not download Rome: Total Realism (www.rometotalrealism.org) or SPQR mod? But if you want to make your own mod, I suggest you look in the download section of this site, I remember a really good .pdf tutorial for modding RTW beeing in the download section...

Edit: Was writing this while Lusted answered. Yes, faction limit is hardcoded, but you can replace a faction by another one, however, it'll be alot of work!

Then learn the basics before trying to do something on this scale. Learn to edit the unit text files first, these are perhaps the easiest part of the game to get to grips with.

The tutorials i linked to are very useful, they will help you learn to mod the game. It took me months before i became a reasonable modder.

None of the best mods are found their, they are too large. The best mods for RTw are(in my opinion):

    RTR
    EB
    SPQR

You can find download links in their forums on this site.

I don't think you want to try EB for your first mod experiance. It's only the beta and they have bugs to work out. RTR and SPQR are almost 100% bug free.

I'm not sure you wanna try SPQR just yet since it is designed to be really challenging. I'm not sure you're looking for that right now lol. Also depends how much you wanna mod. Changing the music is easy, if you want new skins download Webbird skins pack for all the factions and MODDING LEGIONS for the romans. I personally don't recommend RTR because I tried it was amazed to how dull they made the realism part be. Units move really slow on the battlefield, cavalry sucks, and the Romans only have about 4-5 units post marius reforms. I never understood why they only had the early legionary cohorts and not the late legionary cohorts in the mod. I recommend doing your own tweaking and following the lionks Lusted gave you for now. SPQR is for a later stage lol.

Can't I replace the unit images (look at my avatar to see what I mean by that) to ones I have made myself.
