    Default New Gaming Laptop

Hey all, I'm looking for a GOOD gaming laptop. I've been looking at Alienware/ASUS and Macbooks as possible laptops for gaming. I'm looking for a really good one that can play all the top highend games currently out. I'm looking to spend around $1,500-$2,500 roughly for a good Laptop. I don't know much about computers, and my current computer which I use mostly for gaming/movies/etc, is aging, and over 5 years old. I've run into some $ and I'm looking to upgrade from my aging desktop comp, to a good Laptop to suit my needs.

    Please help!! thanks.

Asus is going to be cheaper for the components. Alienware will be good, but they could be cheaper for what you're getting. That's my only advice.

The best advice I can give is find the recommended specs on the games you want to play on ti, add about 50% for a comfort zone, then search the internet for custom builds and have one built to suit.

well to be honest you can fit a gaming PC into something the size of a shoebox and still be far faster then a laptop at half the price. but ppl seem to love laptops... even if you do need a power brick that weighs 10lbs *exaggerating a tiny bit here* and have to be plugged into a wall socket to even game, mobility is great but 1.5hrs battery life and always being tied to a wall socket with a laptop hot enough to melt your balls isnt my idea of comfortable gaming, but to each there own, i do understand the appeal of mobile gaming just it still isnt really all its cracked up to be.

eitherway best bet is Asus for a gaming laptop.

best bet is an Asus G73JH, core i7 8gigs ram and a mobility 5870 which is roughly around desktop 5750 / 5770 performance

if you want TRUE gaming on a laptop there really is only 1 real choice tho'

    http://www.eurocom.com/

    Eurocom

    grab the Eurocom Racer

upgrade from the 460m to the 2gb 6970m = 6850 / gtx 460 1gb desktop performance the 460m is only around gts 450 performance a full step down.

if you want to push the laptop to the omg need a nuclear power plant to run it grab the GTX 485M but be warned its about $605 more expensive then the 6970m but only gives you 12% more performance.

I love gaming on my laptop. Though I mostly play adventure games on the Intel adapter (and it stays nice and cool), it's still nice being able to play BC2 when on the road.

yet in reality compared to desktop its game performance is less then a good $600 custom build which is kinda sad mostly in that mobile tech is still so far behind. as far as a laptop goes its about as good as it gets without breaking the bank

Yeah, I'm looking to use the laptop as my main computer at home, and at work. I work overnights as a security guard, and I usually have 12 hour shifts, so what better to pass dead times then gaming

So I was looking at an Alienware M17x,

    Processer: Intel® Core™ i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    LCD Panel: 17.3-inch WideFHD1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    Memory: 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (4DIMMS)
    Hard Drive: 1.5TB Raid 0 (2x 750GB 7,200RPM)
Video Card: 1.5GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M
    Internal Optical Drive: Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW
    Wireless Cards: Intel® Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO Technology
Sound Options: Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio

    Does all this sound adequate?

Also the main game I currently play is Warcraft 3: TFT. I also have Empire: Total War I'd like to try, though my desktop computer has issues with getting it to work (as it's my 5-year-old, generic desktop computer that I'm replacing).

Does that computer seem powerful enough???

    Thanks,

Why would you spend the money on the mx17 when you can get the G73 cheaper? I am just curious.

the Mx17 is more than adequate if a bit pricey.

On my current desktop comp (which I've had since Spring, 2006.

    System Manu: HP-Pavilion
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.9GHz
    Current Display: 1152 x 864 (32 bit) (75 Hz)
    Graphics: Radeon X1600/X1650 Series
    Memory: 2046MB RAM
    Hard Drive: 291GB
    Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio

It ran games like WoW alright. But I haven't played Empire:TW on it, it wouldn't download.. Now I'm no expert, but I can probably point out that those Specs I just mentioned probably are far outdated lol. So how do I go about this?

I would like to have a Gaming Laptop that can run Empire: Total War well. My current Desktop hosts my main game, Warcraft 3 good, so I don't see any issues with any new laptop having problems with that. my spending margin is as much as $2,000. As high as $2,500-3,000.

go with sager. for 2500$ you can probably have their top end with dual 6970m and the top cpu and like 12 gig of ram + 1080p good luck. you will have alot of fun with that machine for at least 2-3 years.

Sager NP8150, there is nothing else, unless you are going to the 18'' range.

get the base model and just upgrade the GPU to a 6970m (which packs almost the same punch [wins on some loses on some] as the gtx 485m but cost half of it)

Use resellers dont get from Sager, or Eurocom, here are some: ava direct, xoticpc, lpc digital, fortnax (CAN), malibal, origin pc (some of the executives from what was alienware), you can haggle with them and they have a price quote system, making it somewhat closer to the 1400 range

In the 18'' ish range you can have the m18x which will come, or the sager x7200, the latter comes with a desktop i7 cpu (the LGA 1366 goodness not Lynnfield), both system can pack dual gpus.

sincerely if you are not going to get the NP8150, then there is little to get in the laptop range that would actually make monetary sense, we already pay a premium for the powerful gpu (the 6970m is basically a 6850 desktop, the GTX 485m is basically a cut down version of the GTX 560ti desktop), going dual gpu you lose mobility and the price just skyrocket

OK im glad i just came off my temp suspension.

First of all ignore the desktop wannabe laptop haters.

    Next listen up.

Laptops now cool very nicely they are way more effienct as far as processing units go and graphics cards however this only goes for certain specifications the better the laptop the more heat it will produce again certain laptops can handle extreme heat like the MSI range .

What your looking for is a good sturdy laptop well im going to point you in one direction i think you will like IMO the MSI laptop range offer users with the best of the best graphics and processors they also harness a massive cooling feature on them hot as hell days you can activate this option and it will keep the laptop on a safe cool streak .

Now it all depends on your demands i have been fixing laptops and buying them for 2 years now i have come across some awful ones and some extreme beasts like the one im typing on MM knows what im talking about ^_^.

Here are a few choices that i think you will enjoy.

    1. MSI GX660R - 16 INCHES
    2. MSI GT680 - 16 INCHES
    3. MSI GT780 - 17 INCHES

I cant recommend anything else as my current laptop still puts a huge smile on my face it stays cool even under extreme heats its plays all the games i love and it looks awesome one thing to note is the new models gt780 will have a fully lit up keyboard like alienware laptop look out for these and the models that release .

I have gave you an insight on what to get its going to put you down around 1600 Dollars WORTH EVERY PENNY.

I hope your future purchase in a laptop is a good one thanks.

Laptop expert for 2 years now buying and selling own my own shop from last month.

6970M bad card from AMD according to reviews the card has a short life being around 1 years.

gtx560m in gt780r this card beats most its equal to gtx560ti which is a good card.

msi had problems with first units of sb but now new models arrive and pack the big bot gtx560m.

also note mm gtx560m still in production not even released yet i think.

The gtx 560m is not as powerful as a gtx 560ti, the gtx 485m tries to be. And the 6970m is based on the 6850.

The gtx 560m is going to have performance similar to the GTS 450.

The NP 8150 can be equipped with either the gtx 485m (something around 500 bucks) or the 6970m (something around 250), the difference in performance is something around 5%, there are some games the AMD wins and some that the nvidia wins.

The only gaming pc that competes with the sager is the m17x R3, and those are 17''.

there was a member of notebook review that fitted a 6970m in a msi 680r, and that thing is hot in there, it reaches +90c

And where have you heard that the card would last only 1 year?
