    Default COW vs Shogun 2

I would like to compare these two games and show advantages and disadvantages of them.

    COW predomination:
    - variety of f(r)actions (in shogun each fraction is near the same as others)
    - variety of units (daemons, mages, tanks, etc.)
    - storyline
    - battles: better sieges, units don’t rout so fast, variety of attacks(guns, artillery, mage…)units on battlefield don’t look only for dueals, they attck from backside, sides (it’s natural)

    Shogun predomination:
    - strategic map – it’s very good strategy game. AI is quite smart and a lot happens on map.
    - graphics, animations
    - sea battles (but I don’t like them)
    - nice skills trees for characters

It’s of course only my subjective opinion. I would like to know Your ones.

Now I’m playing COW and Shogun 2 - both are great games. Therefore I would like to see 1.5 in future and hope that the team is working on it.

i don't understand the point of this thread, these are two completely different mods made by different people and tools. there is no point in comparing the two.

Forums are made to share opinions and it's the reason.

In some matters CA made a step backwards. People that haven't bought Shogun 2 and are playing with COW could be sure that tactical battles are better in COW.

And no, shogun 2 and cow aren't so different games.

Well, I'd like to start off by saying that saying one game has better graphics, game play, etc. than the other is an opinion, not a fact. Therefore, your first post comparing these two games cannot be regarded as an argument (which you are implying in this thread). That being the case, what is your exact purpose of this thread? Is it comparing your personal thoughts on a game that could've just been kept to yourself or were you trying to promote Shogun 2/CoW? Are you calling for a discussion on other players' views towards your own? You have to be specific in your opening thread when it comes to these, not just point out obvious facts.

While it is true that threads can be used to voice opinions, views, suggestions, etc., that does not mean that it contributes to the forum. Also, seeing how Medieval 2 and Shogun 2, although created by the same gaming company, are based on two different engines with Shogun 2's engine being the latest version of CA's Total War games, they can and are considered to be "different games." Just because they share the same underlying element (real-time battles, turn-based strategy maps, etc.), that does not mean they are the same game. A good example of this would be the Battlefield series and the Call of Duty franchise. Both are shooter games based on varying time periods (World War II, Present-Day), but they are not the same game. Another example, this time a game franchise made by the same company; Half-Life and Half-Life 2. They are based on the same elements and revolve around the same aspects, but they are different games since they are both on different engines and are years apart from one another (just as Shogun 2 and Medieval 2 are).

I do not want to seem like a jerk or anything of that manner, but I have to agree with Toho that this thread doesn't have a clear purpose other than just stating that you think CoW and Shogun 2 are both great games, pointing out observations anybody can see for themselves.

I'll leave this thread open a bit longer to see if it goes anywhere. If not, then I will close it. If it does, I'll keep it open.

In my opinion, shogun 2 is the best vanilla total war game since rome, besides from a few minor bugs it really is fantastic as they brought back so many of the good things from the earlier series, mixed in the new an made a very good strategy game.

I would like to express my opinion about Shogun 2 in comparison with COW (the best modification for tolal war series -in my opinion of course and I want to know what other players think. Was it worth to spend money for new total war game? what was improved and what was screwed up. If such topic was before sorry for doubling.

What do You think about low variety of units and tactical battles? aren't sieges too boring for You? In COW I like tactical battles and I don't use autoresolve option but in Shogun 2 I was bored after few battles and now I'm using often autoresolve button. It's probably connected with low variety of units, fast breaking morale and only few models of castles.

Beyond dispute for me is that Shogun 2 is much better than Napoleon but COW team opened my eyes for some matters and I'm not entirely satisfied after new CA release.

I hate when people say fractions instead of factions.

Anyway i agree with others in this thread it's a apples to oranges comparison.

They have different coding, different engine, different setting. There really isn't much that's the same to be honest so where do you even begin to compare them in any sort of way that would be fair to both.

Why not compare the original Medieval with a mod made for the original Shogun. <Exercise in futility much

I will simply say there are things i like and don't like and to each thier own.

That's odd. I have had just as many CTD's with Shogun 2 as I've had with CoW 1.44 (which is two)

Shogun 2 is great in theory, but the finished product fails for me in many ways. So much so that after a week I un-installed and went back to CoW.

I feel the same thing but campaign map keep me with Shogun 2.

I regret that I bought it now. Also connecting with steam account is painful.

No idea how, but I've always had fewer crashes than most.

All I do is follow the instructions exactly and to the letter. I also rarely use a torrent as I am usually one of the first to download the mod
