Go into descr_strat.txt in the data\world\maps\campaign\Imperial_campaign folder. Remove the superfaction senate line form all the roman faction entries, then remove the senate faction entry, giving rome to another faction.

Is there also a way to remove that pesky senate list button in the game, cause it causes CTD when (accidently) pressed?

Not unless you are willing to edit a lot of text files, and rename the roman factions internally.
Just remember not to press it.

This person has removed the senate from the game. The senate lists tab is on the faction overview scroll on the bottom right, when you click on it it lists all the senate offices your faction holds. But if you remove the senate, you get no offices, and the game crashes when you click the senate office button.
