Video Conversion

I have a vob file (from a DVD that I own, just to be clear) that I want to convert to a MP4, or some easier file; the VOB is one gig, while the MP4 should be around 150 megs. Does anyone know any good conversion tools? I've been searching for a while, and haven't found anything that works. I have a mac and a PC to try, so pretty much any program I could try;

Quicktime won't open it, VLC opens and plays it but cannot convert it properly, anything that can convert it ends up with no audio.

Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Haven't used it myself but a friend of mine swears (constantly) by it.

Are you perhaps trying to covert it to be viewed on an Ipod or PSP?

I use PSPVideo9 for .vob to MP4 conversion.
