    Default L4D2 bugs

I recently bought the L4D pack on steam, and when ever I try to play a game on L4D2, it just gives me a black screen with choppy sounds.

I know my pc can run it, as it has played L4D2 before this started happening. I run the game using Windows 7 64 bit and I have never messed around with the data files. 6 gb of RAM, and I have an Intel GMA X4500 graphics card.

The main menu works fine, it just starting a game is when I have problems.

Intel GMA X4500 graphics card. Since when was that running L4D2?

    • Supported OS: Windows® 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
    • Processor: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
    • Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
    • Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128 MB, Shader model 2.0. ATI X800, NVidia 6600 or better
    • Hard Drive: At least 7.5 GB of free space
    • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

I mean granted... its not a huge requirement on graphics.. but its more than what that GMA can handle.

at least update the drivers for the GMA

Let’s get something straight – the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is not designed to play games. Its purpose is to provide a low-cost, low-power integrated graphics solution that supports video playback and external monitor connections. While Intel continues to improve the performance of its integrated graphics solutions, its latest 4500MHD offering still is not suitable for gaming. Even at very low settings, the 4500MHD cannot produce the performance necessary for enjoyable gameplay in modern games – older ones like Counter-Strike: Source, yes, but newer ones like Left 4 Dead, definitely not.

Drivers are up to date, and it ran perfectly fine for the first few runs. L4D1, Napoleon, Portal, and Empire all run perfectly fine. (albeit, Napoleon and Empire lag a little bit but it doesn't lag to much.)

So did my computer specs lie? dxdiag says my directx version is directx 9.0c.

Why not ask the L4D2 forums? They should have a better handle on this.

I found a fix on L4D2 forums, but it didn't work so I'm just going to reinstall. Maybe some of the files became corrupted during the download.

yea 9800gtx is so old its not even funny and the fact its been renamed to hell and back... 8800gts 512 = 9800gtx = 9800gtx + = gts 250 lol all the same exact gpu its effectively a nearly 4.5 year old GPU

your better off with something like this
    5850 1gig $140 offers more then double the performance of a 9800GTX and its only $30 -35 more then a 9800gtx
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102932

The nvidia GPU with the same performance lvl would be the GTX 460 1gig which is $40-60 more expensive and uses far more power...

that said if your PC is an OEM pc i highly doubt its power supply can handle any gpu of the above aka 9800gtx 460 gtx or ati 5850.
