Default FIRST PART RELEASED This is my Tale, Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships AAR

Cheers mates, and welcome to This is my Tale, an Age of Pirates 2 AAR. We will be following the history of a captain of a ship during the late XVII century in the Caribbean while he fights for fortune and glory.

I would like to start by describing the game a little bit. It's an RPG developed by the Russian company Akella, that allows the player to follow the footsteps of many famous pirates. The original game is pretty good, but not enough, so a modding community based on the site www.piratesahoy.net, that is know by the pirate RPG fans for it's excellent work on other games, is modding the game into how they think it should be. I'll be using the Combined Mod v3 for this AAR since it is the latest version and it's pretty much stable.

    The game's main menu

So before we get started on our adventure, I'd like to know your opinion on something. I will be using this character:

As you can see, he is Dutch, but I can change is nationality to whatever I like, so, I'll post a poll to know with what do you want his nationality to be, knowing that it has effects on what ports I can enter, the ships that attack me, etc. The diplomatic status at the start is:

The crossed weapons mean war, the beer kegs mean alliance and the balance means neutral. I can enter only allied and neutral ports (if I try to enter an enemy port, the fort and surrounding ships will attack me) , and enemy patrols will chase me.

So, I'll see you in a month after the poll closes. Comment and ask questions if you want.

This very much looks like M&B. I'm interested in this for sure. Do you know if there is a demo? Ill be following this but in the mean time...would you recommend this. I find myself bored with the games that I currently have and Im looking for something new!

Well, I totally recommend it, as for me it is a ton of fun and very interesting because I love the setting. I am afraid there is no demo, and the game is a little bit hard to find on hard copy. You see this is a small Eastern European Company and they are a bit short of budget so they don't usually make many copies. However, finding it via digital download in Amazon or so should be easy.

Going back to the recommendation, this game is based in a great part on sailing and naval warfare, so if you don't like those I'd recommend to stay away. If you actually get it, be sure to use the same mod as I do. (I'll post a link soon)

Oh, and thanks for stopping by, I'll just let the poll close and I'll start. However, if I don't get votes for a week I'll start the AAR. This will be a long road, the game is full of stuff to do.

2nd Edit: I already prepared a first episode should pirates be chosen.

Hmm...I'm really interested in this Though the game looks like the old Pirates of the Caribbean game, which was not too related to the movies, except the appearence of the Black Pearl and it's "undead" crew. I might try this out.

This game is actually a member of that game's series. The old Pirates of the Caribbean Game is technically Sea Dogs Two, this one can be considered Sea Dogs 4.

PART 1, Bermuda: Where it all Began

And so Nicolaas van Horn's journey begins in his ships deck. A little bit confused and sick, he tries to remember what on Earth is going on.

Luckily, a sailor quickly approaches him and clarifies the situation:

After a long chat with the man in the deck, our hero starts to have a notion of what's going on. He's commanding a damaged ship close to the Pirate haven of Bermuda. Things couldn't be better, could they? Finally Nicolaas goes ashore to the "port".

A few seconds later he finds himself being interrupted in his walk through this new land by a so called "old friend" called Atila. He takes him to tavern where they have a conversation about the past. Eventually, Atila would tell Nicolaas that he knew of a Venetian mercenary which owned a great treasure and lived in Puerto Rico with his wife Isabella. He ends the chat by telling our hero that he couldn't approach a Spanish port (neither can we ), so we should give try to get our hands on it as he couldn't.

But, this new quest will have to wait. First he needs to get a decent ship. We have a small Shnyava that resembles a Brig (called Wind Chaser) and that's just not the ship to go out and pillage valuable merchant ships (usually escorted, the ones that have nothing valuable inside obviously aren't). We have two ways of getting a bigger or better ship: buying it by winning a fortune or boarding it and taking it as a prize. Nicolaas feels sort of inclined for the first option since his ship's guns are of a very small caliber. Luckily, there are tons of cacao and leather on board, so he goes to the merchant's shop.

The fellow must think he is funny by calling Nicolaas a lady, but he does his job of buying by a shockingly low price all our cacao and leather, and he even sells him a new sword (the old one is just awful).

And by visiting his shop, he also gets useful information:

This here is the trade book. Each time we visit a store it is updated, so he can keep track of what each port or settlement exports, imports and considers contraband. As he can't enter any port except Pirate ports, he decides to set sail. The destiny is Puerto Principe, a pirate settlement on Northern Hispaniolla.

And so, he sets sail for adventure!

NEXT ON "THIS IS MY TALE":

    Ooops!!!

Our hero will show his worth on battle for the first time. Until then, favorable winds mates .

PS: This is like a pilot episode, and it's my first AAR, next ones will be larger, I hope you like it.

It's not bad, just keep the pictures a little bit smaller, if you can, okay?

I'll try but I take them with Steam because it's easier, so I don't know if I can do it.

Annoucement: This AAR isn't dead, it's jsut delayed because there is an excellent mod that is an extreme improvment to the game being done, and I am waiting for it to be in a stable version.
