Default Should I invest in a gigabit router?

So my ISP (comcast) offers a free wireless 10/100 router that I have been using, but Ive never gamed on it. My speeds are advertised at 6mbps, with some kind of turbo feature when downloading that can boost it to 15mbps. Upload is 1-2 mbps.

My concern is gaming, with BF3 coming late this year. Does any of this Gigabit tech actually have any effect on my speeds? It sounds like it is just for increasing transfer rates on a network. Although I have come across other info that would suggest it would have a positive effect.

Are there any other tangible features to look for in a router that would improve gaming?

For recommendation purposes, I don't care if it is wireless.

    thanks

    wont be any difference

your current router has more throughput then any ISP is providing right now. It can affect latency sometimes but not enough to notice, im not joking when i say that one of those cheesy Killer NiC cards for desktops makes more of a difference then gigabit routers and switches, unless your running 5-6 machines on a home network.

A Gigabit router is only ever useful in a home network if you want to increase the transfer speed between devices.
