Default Greece goes to Interpol over London trader that dared talk about Greece's economy

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13166589

This is getting absurd. The Greek Government now seems to see its role as lashing out at any foreigner they can to distract the people from their situation.

A trader of Citibank sent an email saying there was increased "noise" about Greece defaulting on its debt. This has been printed in a Greek newspaper.

    It's bullying, absolutely disgusting.

In other threads, people keep saying "but who gives a outside Greece about this?".
Now this is getting absurd. Ferrets and a few more guys have nothing better to do than mock Greece.
In fact, I, being a Greek myself, didn't even know there was such situation. Thanks again for informing me on everything about Greece. Now I don't even have to watch the news anymore.

Therein lies the problem. You're own media isn't informing you of the silly things your Government is doing. Instead of getting indignant, I'd be more concerned about what else your Government is doing that you aren't being told about.

Better reading, less bias. You did not even bother to read the bbc linked article did you?

    Taken from the OP link

The Greek authorities have asked Interpol to question a London trader over an email he sent which talked of the high chance of a Greek default.
The email, published in a Greek newspaper, refers to "increased noise" over a Greek debt restructuring as early as Easter.

Haven't you decided yet? Ferrets is actually saying that the government is doing this in order to draw our attention elsewhere. You believe completely the opposite, that the government is acting behind our backs. I'm a bit confused here.

Yours too. Especially because you are a Turk. So, watch what you're sending.

I cant see why Greece is so upset over this, nor why they printed his email to be honest. This just sounds like someone being butthurt.

This. Greeks should care more about the failings of their own Government than this. The priorities of the Greek people seem really screwed at the moment.

If Interpol finds nothing, it ends there. Or perhaps someone here has doupts about Interpol and its abilities?
    And that

It's not forbidden to say that Greek economy is bad or that it may default. We have freedom of speech and trust me, we excercice it a lot.
It may prove to be an attempt to hit our market though for profit, which is illegal.
I disagree with a lot that my goverment does, but I don't disagree with asking interpol to check such things. That's part of interpol's job

I read the link; so it published the email, what is your point?. Did it also report on the fact that your Government had asked Interpol to look into the matter, or was it focussed on the fact that some Brit trader had made comments about the state of the Greek economy (which is apparently forbidden)?

I don't care if it is forbidden or not. The question is if it is illegal. And that is something for Interpol to decide.

As for the local media beeing uninformative, that is your assumption based on who knows what. Nothing in the article even remotely suggests it.

I think Greece is doing its level best to establish itself as the joke of the world. When you are in competition with Africa or Turkmenistan to see who can produce the most ridiculous headline you know they are desperately trying to avoid something.

There's a "Your mom" joke in there somewhere, but I don't think the Greek government has quite descended to that level. Give them time, I say.

That's because the article is obviously incomplete. It speaks of a random London trader sending an email to somewhere. For any person with an IQ above zero it is obvious that the case was far more important. Rumors of defaulting raise the spreads which means that the Greek government can't take loans because of the high interest. What people seem not to understand is that the problem of Greece is not the debt something which all countries in the world have but the inability to take loans.

to be fair to the greeks, rumours do start runs on currencies
but you can't really prosecute anyone over this

That perfectly complements the suing of a foreign news magazine for "insulting the motherland and desecrating a national symbol".

But Greeks did already know how to run on a deficit when "our people" were still cracking nuts hanging from the trees, so we have no right to complain.

I knew the response from the Greeks on this forum was likely to be "waaaaaaaah you hate Greeks" rather than any attempt to address the topic, but I am laughing at the suggestion from Manuel and Alhoon that I start so many Greek threads they don't have to watch the news - when in fact, from the threads I have started about countries since January:

    1 is about Ireland
6 are about Italy (all but one of these about Berlusconi's court case)
    1 is about Romania
    1 is about Lebanon
    1 is about Uganda
    2 are about about Russia
    1 is about Israel
    3 are about America
    1 is about France
    1 is about Iceland
    1 is about Ivory Coast
more than all of these put together are about the UK
and a grand total of all are about Greece

So maybe we could dispense with this particular retarded strawman, guys?

Anyway, the Greek Government trying to attack a British worker for just doing his job in daring to give a frank analysis of Greece's untrustworthy position on its debt is disgusting.
