Default RTW: Playing as "non-playable" factions..

I've been playing RTW on a newish Windows 7 PC and have been trying to start a Scythia campaign.. However, when I select Scythia on the faction selection screen before I start the campaign, the game crashes to the desktop. This didn't used to happen, as on my XP machine it would just display a weird map that didn't look like the normal RTW map that highlights where your faction's lands are located and let me play. Now it just crashes.. Any ideas?

What happens when you play Rome - does the game crash?

Have you added the -show_err switch to the shortcut properties? This can allow a message to be displayed when the program terminates if the error is trapped by the program.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Are you saying that when you play RTW on the other PC you don't get the RTW map?

One thing to remember when changing the txt files is that positioning of the text is important. Most of the files are Excel spreadsheets that have eben exported as text. If the text starts in the wrong column you can get a CTD....

I fixed the problem by reinstalling the game.
It was missing the picture of your faction's map location so when you clicked the faction in the faction selection screen, the game didn't know what to show and just crashed.
