Icon3 Few factions for all but double the fun!

Since this is meant for all the more recent total war games, I figured this would be the best place to post it in. If I'm wrong and it should have been in a different section, you have my apology in advance.

Lately when I'm playing a total war game (I've got them all starting from the total war Rome game) I'm beginning to get annoyed at the TIME it takes for factions to make their move. So I've been thinking on a way to try and lessen the time it takes for this to happen.

Unfortunately, I do not have the required knowledge to do the advanced modding it would take to do this. (I used to know how to change the starting money, but that's been a while already)

Anyway, this topic is meant to ask your opinion if this is doable and how it would effect difficulty and gameplay.

First, I would replace the factions that would be removed with an 'official' rebel faction. If I'm not mistaken then the rebel factions of all? games do not really work together. They move separately... I think. I'm reasoning that this is true, so if it isn't feel free to correct me.

Like I said, replace the removed factions with a single (larger) rebel faction that is constantly at war with everyone all the time.

Since this would get the rebel faction a much higher income, I would presume that they would begin to produce units like there is no tomorrow. While that would make the game a lot harder, it also might make the game IMPOSSIBLE to beat..... Without cheating.

So the A.I might have to be edited so that other factions focus on attacking rebel cities at first.

To further balance the game, I would give each faction a couple more cities with higher population (so that they get more income as a result) so they too can build up larger armies.

I already pointed out that doing what I propose would increase the difficulty. Having more cities means more income and more placed to build units; More units means larger armies which means on its own that battles will be much more difficult to beat.

I'm unaware if there is already a mod like this -or similar- out there. If there is, I would appreciate it to be pointed in the right direction. Not only that, but if it could be combined with the many MANY excellent mods out there I would have a blast!

Does my 'idea' for the lack of a better word suck so much that it doesn't even get a single reply? Even if it was to tell me that it has been done before or that this is in the wrong place or something.

Interesting idea, but I don't like it that much. It would be extremely hard to balance the game. How would you make the faction defend all of it's borders rather than just attacking towards on direction?

Would ruin the game for me, as I for one like to play a game to win it, not to pull all my hair out because it's so ungodly hard.

I know that it has its problems. But isn't the only difference that the factions are larger? Bigger nations, more rebels and bigger armies?

Aside from that I don't see that much difference.

But what's to stop the AI from say, ONLY attacking in the middle east with dozens of stacks and then leaving Scotland empty of any troops?
Would ruin the game for me, not to mention it's not historical (which is what drew me into TW in the first place), and not that realistic either.
    Interesting idea nonetheless.

You may have a point. But I can assume that much later in the game, the AI's empire(s) have grown very large as well? It has to be as nations are being conquered and such. So wouldn't the same happen eventually anyway?

But like I said earlier in my first topic; I' not good enough to try it for myself. I still think it can be done though. Maybe we can use a save game from someone that has advanced far in one of the games? Take that as the place to start off with.

It would only be a matter of editing the descr_strat and giving the rebels all those regions. It would take a while, but wouldn't be that complicated.
