Default can i change the ERE/WRE general's portraits in IBFD 7.03??

I'v been playing IBFD 7.03 for almost a year now but if there's one thing i can never get used to in this amazing mod is the roman general's portraits, so i thought i'd ask around here if its possible for me to change at least some of the roman portraits. Any ideas??

Well, there's no download that fixes this, I'm afraid. The only thing I can think of is if you implement other portraits yourself. Are you familiar with the files in question?

hey tnkx for replying i am a bit familiar with the files in question, i already edited a bunch of portraits for my m2tw & other mods by creating a custom_portraits folder, but in IBFD i couldn't find the roman general's portraits in the UI when i clicked UI/Romans/portraits there is only family file in the roman folder & no roman general's portraits.

Are they located somewhere else other than the UI ?

No, you see, Barbarian Invasion is a sort of "modfolder" for RTW, so if you leave out any new portraits in the BI UI/roman/portraits folder, the engine will automatically use the vanilla ones from RTW. So, if you add new portraits inside IBFD/data/ui/roman/portraits, they will show up in the game. However, you'll need to add at least 150 - 200 new ones or so to prevent any vanilla ones from popping up.

i see, so if i'm understanding right, do i need to create the missing 4 generals portraits files inside IBFD/data/ui/roman/portraits, which are generals, old, young & dead with my new 200 or so portraits in them???

or can i just replace all the old roman portraits with my new onse in vanilla RTW/UI/roman/portraits/generals??? since the engine automatically uses the vanilla ones from RTW...

lol i'm so tiered of having bald emperors, generals & captains in IBFD in my WRE/ERE campaigs & i don't want to abandon it & my campaigns for bald portraits especially if i can change them. For instance, when i started playing IBSAI i was really pleased with the late roman portraits like those gemmed spangenhelms onse

Yes, you need to create young, old and dead ones.

I guess you can do that as well, but that will, of course, change the vanilla ones for all mods you're playing.

I made the ones used in SAI, so I'm glad you like them. But why don't you like bald guys? A lot of men are bald, and I personally enjoy a good mix of ethnicity, weight, height, appearance and so on.

Writing here as I do not want to create a new thread about the same topic.
I would like to know, how I could find out which general is using which portrait and change the portrait of the general for other manualy? Is there a way how I can disable some portraits to be used in game?
My reason is that I have added SAI portraits in to may version of 7.03 and I would like to eliminate portraits of former roman emperos like Iulianus (which now gets Vortigen) or Valens (now Aetius). Also Honorius with the new portrait like a battle hardened general which I do not find very accurate

The only way I can think of is to check the folders using Photoshop or some other software that can handle .tga files.

    Only if you remove/replace them.

The easiest way to get rid of portraits you don't want is to simply replace them with another portrait. First of all check which number the portrat you want to get rid of has, and then pick another portrait you want, copy it and give it the old one's number. Then just paste it in and click yes to replace. Remember that you have to do this with all of them, young, old, dead and in the two folders ( cards & portraits ) in the proper UI folder.
