    Default Playing KGCM on a laptop without CD drive

    Hello guys,

    I have a question for you. I hope I get a positive answer but I doubt it. I have bought a HP Pavilion dm1. In short it's a cross between a netbook and a notebook. So in theory I should be able to play Medieval II and KGCM. But as I have no CD drive, it's a bit troublesome. I have both Medieval II and the Kingdoms expansion. If I register my games on steam, can I play them without cd then? And if so, does the same apply to mods?

    @RJA

    I will try to help you, but my experience with Steam is limited. I believe that you will have to purchase M2TW and Kingdoms from Steam. I would be very suprised to learn that they would let you 'register' a software package purchased elsewhere (somebody correct me if I am wrong).

    You will then be able to play the Steam versions of the software (no DVD required) and most of the mods should work with this as well. Some users have had no problems getting KGCM, for instance, to work with Steam while others have not. I have to say that you are the first one to ask this question, but I have been wondering about it myself with the growing number of smart phones and tablet PCs on the market.

    You may want to ask this question in the Total War Center Technical Support Forum.

    Sorry I could not be of more assistance.

    Stylix is correct, you can register any sofware and launch it from Steam, but only games with the steampowered logo or older games downloaded from the steam store launch without disks
