    Default Medals & promotions

    Good evening all,

I was doing some research/reading today on the Napoleonic era and a thought occurred to me; why are there no medals and promotions for units?

Looking at motivational factors, it seems doing your best to bring out that Marshall's baton from your knapsack was a huge thing for many involved in battles. It demonstrated the importance of merit now over nepotism (well, largely moreso from the previous eras I mean).

As for the medal thing, shouldn't the player get the option to give out a medal (1 per year maybe) to a unit that deserves it----consequently, this unit would reflect that medal's bonuses (some medals, faster recuperation, some better morale, some better shooters).

It would add a different taste and allow for some units to really be different (more immersion and 'color')---perhaps this can be modded?

If not a unit, maybe towards a general? Also, what about buying generals out (Bernadotte's betrayal)---some generals should have that 'buy out' option (like 5000 gold or something)---where upon he comes over to your side with the stack he has or something...

    Some ideas

Well since there is no upgrades of any kind in the mechanisms of the buildings anymore as in past renditions of the TW series I am not sure if it is possible to mod that in.

As for generals I wouldn't want bribing to be in this game this is the age of growth of nationalism and generals simply didn't switch sides. Bernadotte did not betray Napoleon he was elected King of Sweden and did what was best for Sweden even Napoleon is reputed to have said "I can accuse him of ingratitude but not treason."

I like the idea, but 1 per year kinda raises the same question, why can't I award a medal to those that win an amazing battle, immediately after the battle?

Maybe you can have 1 of each medal for use(Better morale, better aim, extra charge) and can only give it out to one unit, and you can't re-award said medal until the unit dies out, or is disbanded, or you can merge the two and say each medal can only be handed out once per year, but you can use more than one type per year.

I know if you promoted generals in Empire like there was no tomorrow, the generals got less good or something (or so it says in the manual). Perhaps something similar could apply to this idea - you could hand out one a year, or one a turn even, but if you go overboard, the bonuses from the medals get diminished; by handing out so many medals, you devalue the award. Just a thought.

It`s an interesting idea, and I do guage units that have performed well or been in the thick of it.

Alas, I imagine it merely as an aesthetic, a unit receives a medal has a little medal icon on the unit card and is able to receive more than one. The issue of different types of medals for different actions. Maybe even a small box that when clicked on gives details of why the medal was given, written by the player at the time of issue.

Then being able to identify the regiment on the field, ah it`s 38th medalled 3 times, twice for bravery and one for defence, send them in.

In my little head I imagine.
    Ships! I see no ships!

That would be so awesome: Giving units medals for holding a particular objective, medals for participating in different theaters etc. Then at the end of the campaign check out the regiments that have stuck with you throughout, and see the rack of medals they've collected!

I kinda wish each unit had a trait system like the generals, that would have battle honours (the major battles) listed, some unit-wide traits based on the unit's performance so you could have cool veteran units and such (if i am making any sense at all).
