Default CTD on battle map repeatedly - Destroys the experience

So in every 3rd battle, I get a CTD which totaly kills the fun. It can be in the start of the battle, or at the very end of it, but the result is the same: CTD. This I know has nothing to do with my computer, but with Stainless Steel. Why does this CTD occur? And what can we do to eliminate it? I'm playing on Windows 7, and there are no problems other than this one. I have no log in my medieval folder because the mod destroys it for some reason. Are anyone else having this problem?
Interested in how Attila and the new LONGBEARDS DLC plays?

helmersen - this could be a memory related issue with SS textures -they take up a lot of space.
the revised SS6.4 might solve this problem at least as the team have worked very hard to reduce the memory overload for textures.
    (Amongst other things!)
    It should help with stability.
    Hopefully it'll be released soon.

Oh, i was just going to post something like the OP said. Is there some way to get around this issue? Installing any of the tools that bane_tw mentions in this post will help? (even if it reduces the textures...)

Also i would like to extend sincere congratulations to the team responsible for this fantastic mod, it's the most enjoyable experience i've had with the Total War series since the old Medieval I. Beats everything else out there, IMO (even Shogun II).
