Default [Proposal] Small Amendment to Naval Combat

    Hi All

As you know NB's naval combat formula of: Number of ships x assigned troops x D20 = battle score

    Is the one we use...

However I propose a small change...

    - I know nothing about naval warfare at the time... However I dont think that ships of any time period would be able to hold an unlimited amount of troops... So I propose that we have a per ship troop limit... I have no idea what said limit would be but Im sure we can together hash one out... This means that in naval combat the number of ships would be more important over all due to 1) increasing the battle score and 2) increasing the capacity of the amount of troops for the combat...

    Your thoughts?

    Haha... We probably did...

Ok thats cool... That one opinion... I dont really mind either way to be honest, just thought it would make more sense having a limit... Otherwise you'll get battles where there are 20000 troops fitting on like 10 ships lol which might work if the ships were aircraft carriers lol...

Dawn it depends on the ship though. I mean if someone builds a big ship then it will carry more people. Someone builds a small ship it will carry less.

Also armor makes it hard to have a lot of people on the ship. As their is not enough room. So yeah it depends on how big the ship and the type of troops

    I like your proposal though

Thats my point though... But to keep it simple we wouldnt worry about ship sizes... And the historians amoung us if/when we get to hashing out a capacity would just take an average of all the different types of ships of the time... So getting an average ship size which we would use for all calculations to keep it simple...

Why would they do that ?. The English did not have every type of ship that the rest of the world had. The Milans had better ships and so did the Venetians. So it would depend on the year we are currently in for the ships. I mean I do not think the English had a good navy to much later in history. I think the Venetians had the best navy during the current time period.

I would Assume that the Average ship size was small or at least Medium.

And now that i think about it I think Everyone gets gunpowder now. and did the Mongols Invade yet ?

Why... For simplicities sake really... It would be a million times easier if we just said Ship = 200 men capacity or something like that instead of making a specific capacity for each of the numerous types of ships available... And then having to keep track of what type of ships each nation had and how many blah blah lol would turn into a nightmare...

If we just had a simple 1 Ship = x capacity and thats it, it would be much easier...

but then doesn't that make the formular pointless. Since each and every ship will more or less end up with 200 men, except in extremely large cases, the math would just end up being ships x D20, as the 200 becomes simple courtesy.

Well I guess it depends how many troops you have... And if you want to risk loosing all of them in a naval battle...
