Default How many times you format your hard drive

Right as topic title, I formatted my computer many times when I was using Windows Millenium Eidtion as well as Windows 2000 Pro. This year I formatted my drive containing XP at least 4 times, don' tknow why its just slow down some how as well as ridiculous error messages, that appears sometimes.

One of my friends told me every five months, he format his, because its remove all clutter and having reinstalled XP, its a lot faster, what do you think.

I usually format and re-install Windows every year and a half. I think that it is unnecessary to do more often, if you know what you’re doing take care and don’t install loads of crap Windows will run just fine for a long time. At least XP will, earlier versions, especially ME are known to have serious issues. Luckily I’ve never had Me, I used 98 se until XP came out.

If you need to format every 5 month you’re really doing something wrong.

The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved.

I do it every 6 months or so, just to make me feel better...I don't see any noticeable improvements, but it gives me peace of mind. Generally, I will also reinstall XP if I introduce new hardware into my system - I have reinstalled XP 3 times since Xmas,

    I generaly never defrag.

I upgrade my comp a lot and that usualy involves a piece of hardware that requires Xp to be reinstalled so i dont see the need to defrage inbetween.

Had this install for just over a year.

The last time I reformatted is around 3 months ago. I generally don't reformat as a rule but when some software problem comes up I can't fix I just say screw it and start over.

about 4 times, mostly because other ppl who download stuff onto my comp don't know what they're doing and end up screwing everything.

Thanks for your comments and format experience sharing, most appreciate. It usually took me 2 hours to restore everything back to normal, after fomat, after previous experience of formatting, which takes two days.
