    Default City map?

Okay I have always felt there was something missing (other than all that other stuff that will eventually come out)
What I feel is missing is a full blown city map. I would love to fight only in a city, while watching the buildings being pummeled by artillery. Right now the biggest city map (that I can think of) is Lodi, however I want the map to be filled with buildings, except for the deployment area so that artillery have some space. This also would provide lots of cover for infantry. The battles would be grottoes than on the open fields, and cavalry would provide a more legitimate threat to infantry and artillery alike. So how about it TGW?

I'v also thought of this in the past, the battles between humans would be quite epic indeed.

The AI on the other hand... I can't even begin to imagine how badly they would be destroyed in a 100% city map.

And the pathfinding.....ugh!!! But I think Aanker can make a huge city map with a river crossing it, maybe even Paris or Berlin!! And you could add in the description: MP only

Indeed, it would be great....But just the thought of the pathfinding issues are enough to make me shudder =/

Nah, I still would play against the AI.
But if this does happen I will be rather excited indeed!!

    Whats so bad about Pathfinding?
That is the flaw in your theory, gentlemen and I will not help you out of it. If you choose to deal with men by means of compulsion, do so. But you will discover that you need the voluntary co-operation of your victims, in many more ways than you can see at present. And your victims should discover that it is their own volition - which you cannot force - that makes you possible. I choose to be consistent and I will obey you in the manner you demand. Whatever you wish me to do, I will do it at the point of a gun. If you sentence me to jail, you will have to send armed men to carry me there - I will not volunteer to move. If you fine me, you will have to seize my property to collect the fine - I will not volunteer to pay it. If you believe that you have the right to force me - use your guns openly. I will not help you to disguise the nature of your action. -Hank Rearden

The AI tends to struggle within built up areas. For instance when the AI would round a corner if you place a unit there ready, they will get decimated before they even manage to position in a way that would allow them to fire back.

There would simply be no competition unless you had a human who knew what he was doing.

Well, if you read into some city fights, thats not always so far from the truth

As I found earlier today when I had a Machine Gun battalion decimate about 1000 German troops who got caught up trying to cross rivers and maneuver a city. XD

I still think we should have a pure city map

It probably wouldn't run smoothly though either. In the engine units fight in neat rectangular blobs. They typically don't start shooting until the whole unit has maneuvered into this rectangle (though with light infantry doctrine on they start shooting once an individual has reached his position and stopped moving.) In a city it gets all closed up and your units start acting crazy and generally won't be able to fire (unless they are small units) because they're constantly trying to move as a whole unit, rather than as an individual.

It's reasons like that that I tend to avoid towns and cities completely when making my advance.

hehe. I usually put Machineguns or my experienced guys on the flanks of a city and batter the middle with my artillery

So do you think this sort of map could be added to 5.0?

Well, we have a few other things planned, but if we do get spare time, this could definitely be something that we could work on.

Yes, me and Aanker have actualy had a rather epic MPC a while back.

Providing both players have exactly the same mod installed MP is possible.
