Default SS 6.4 CTD unspecified error, custom battle

Hey guys, I was setting up some custom battles on SS 6.4, mainly with the Teutonic order as my faction, and in the different battles with either novgorod, kiev or poland as my enemy. In all cases as soon as I clicked start before it even started to load a CTD occurs with the usual unspecified error message. I also tried a quick custom between england and france but same thing happens.
I have attached the system.log file. Thanks to anyone taking a look, because I can't play a single battle XD and I'm dying to start playing the mod again.

    Bladelok,

Please specify as to what you chose on Setup, plus any sub mods installed

Well it is just SS 6.4 if by sub-mods you mean extras that have been downloaded manually to be added to SS, then I haven't installed any.
Regarding the setup I use the Late Era campaign (1220) with Savage AI, permanent arrows and permanent watchtowers ticked by default. Although either when leaving it like that or when I try to so some changes, it says 'Error while creating temporary file. Operation Aborted'.

    Bladelok,

What version of Windows r u using, XP, Vista or WIN7?

Have you tried a battle within a campaign yet, did that result in a CTD?

I use Windows Vista, and I'm aware that there can be problems on Vista. I have just started a late era campaign and I have fought a battle against a rebel army without problems. However I also noted that I couldn't save the campaign it said something about can't save file on disk.
Another thing I noted is that every time I exit the game and start it again the video and game options I modified have reset. What's up with that?

    Bladelok,

If you have not already disabled the User Access Control you need too, I think you a have a faulty install.

Please delete your SS folder from MTW2, then Right Click ON MTW2, select properties and remove tick from 'Read Only'.

Re-install SS, but your UAC must be disabled

Ok Navajo Joe I did as you said. I disabled UAC (using Registry Editor). I deleted the SS folder and reinstalled SS6.3 and the 6.4 patch. When I load a custom battle it still gives me a CTD, although this time the loading bar loads full before the game crashes.

    Bladelok,

Did you Right Click MTW2, select Properties and remove check from Read Only?

If you didn't do the same again, if you did do this, then its Plan B!!

I did remove the check from read only but it always ends up checked again >.< . I know this should be basic but I never really got a grip on how to leave it like that.

    Bladelok,

After you have removed the check, do you click on 'apply'

Yes I do that every time but it always becomes checked again. I go to properties, remove the check from read-only, clicked on apply, waited for the bar to fill up and I click ok. But when I enter the properties again to see if it is still unchecked the read-only box is checked again.

right click ss and mtw2 and give them admin rights directly, this should allow them to write the temp files

Either I have no idea on how to do that or I'm doing it wrong. Or both. You probably can't put it any simpler but if you could it would be great.

As far as I know UAC is off because it doesn't ask me for admin permission when I open an application. But in compatibility I can't check the run as admin because it is 'greyed out'. And to what files must I do this exactly? The MTW2 and SS applications? Kingdoms application too?

GOD >< patience patience. This is what I did. I followed the guide and I went to the MTW2 folder, right click, security, edit, users, ticked the first and second boxes apply and ok. I right clicked the SS6.4 installer, run as admin, install finishes, I get into the game. Same problem. What am I doing wrong? ><

what are you doing wrong? nothing at all....it's just mtw2 wasn't made with vista+ in mind so don't get discouraged...i actually just set up ss to run on a win7 machine today and had a few issues, but its good now...so happens to the best of us.

now...if you've followed the guide, and re-run ss6.4.exe install as a admin...the only thing left i can think of doing is uninstalling mtw2 and reinstalling it along with ss somewhere outside of program files. I want you to do something for me, look here:

    C:\Users\[your user name here]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore/Program Files (x86)
and tell me if theres a medieval II total war folder in there.

Yeah there is a SEGA folder with a Medieval Total War 2 folder inside it. What about it?

Update: Managed to play both open battles and a fortress siege on custom. The CTD now only happens apparently when I do FORT sieges. So it has to do with the fort settlements i guess?
