Apple sues Samsung over the use of "square icons with rounded corners" in 'Galaxy' products

Apple's lawsuit alleges that earlier versions of Samsung smartphones do not even come close to mimicking Apple's patented designs "Because they had a variety of shapes -- and did not appear as a field of square icons with rounded corners."

"This kind of blatant copying is wrong," Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet said in a statement.

Well.. technically they could have proper grounds for a suit. But whoever would press charges for something that small is just.. stupid. Other companies have been using a design similar to that for ages. "Never reinvent the wheel"...

A square with rounded corners is a visually pleasing shape, They weren't the first to think of it, hell out of THREE shape buttons in MS Paint, one of them is rounded rectangle.



Besides, the interface looks more like a blackberry than an iphone.

Well, there are many tech companies that sue others for the frivolous devoid of common sense type of lawsuits. It's often part of the negotiation process.

A company like Rambus survives on lawsuits alone. The bastards haven't actually done anything other than licensing and lawsuits since the turn of the millennium. Yet the company's worth like 2+ billion dollars because they sue sue sue whenever a company makes a product with RAM. It's not an exaggeration either. Literally, their entire business revolves around suing companies that have products with RAM.

But still, it's not the first, nor the last time Apple will make a lawsuit over nothing. In this particular case, Samsung makes a lot of products for Apple, including the APU & SoC processors for their iPhones/iPads. So it seems to me that rather than actually suing Samsung fo realz, they just want to negotiate a settlement that puts them in a better position for future contracts.

As you can clearly see by the honest words this man speaks... Apple is only trying to protect their field of squares with rounded edges! Samsung should update their platform to have a field of square squares as that would clearly be an original design that wouldn't be infringing upon Apple, King of the style police.
