    Default How can I defeat 29 full stacks of chaos armies?

    Hi guys. So the storm of chaos happened and I want help on my campaign. Im playing as Middenland and suddenly 29 full stacks of chaos forces. They have high command generals with insane skills (some of them have like 18 hitpoints) Their troops are highly disciplined (3 silver chevrons) and most of them are elite units (chaos knights), which probably means they will hardly flee in a battle and will probably fight until the last man.. I can barely upkeep 4 full stacks. There was an event about the emperor march but I saw nothing and my allies has some army stacks that wont move. So anybody managed to destroy these armies and if so how? Anybody help pls. I thought Grimgor would be hard but I managed to kill him but 29 full stacks of chaos armies is just insane.

    You must stock your crucial cities full and hold back your field armies in some corner away from roads. After Chaos storm passes over and is otherwise occupied counterattack and take back the cities you lost. Hopefully during the sieges you have bled his best troops dry when they took them from you. I have yet to lose a single campaign yet. Middenheim is easy. Try Ostland.

    Ok thanks. I will try to counter attack. The empire reinforcements arrived but it is pretty hard to fight a battle alongside them.

    Just garrison inside your large stone cities, use mortars to destroy their cannons/siege towers/ladders/battering rams. They just fire at them with mages/cannons.

    You could also try to weaken the Chaos stacks by using a cavalry army of (mostly) pistolliers and heavy cav. Even the most experienced Chaos knight will fall just as easily to a bullet as an inexperienced one. Use the knights to destroy weakened units and to kill the javelin marauders. Stay flexible - if your pistolliers are running out of bullets, and the enemy still has enough troops to cause serious casualties in melee, withdraw. On the other hand, if you win the battle, you can attack another stack right away. If you can afford to field two-three cav armies of about 3/4 stack each, that should allow you to whittle down the attacking stacks by 3-5 before they actually hit you. May not sound like much, but hey, cavalry are of little use in siege warfare anyway.

    or just use many stacks against each one individual stack and beat them like that.

    I had absolutely no problem with Chaos storm on VH/VH. Lost no city and only 1 battle. 1 good Empire general with a fullstack will win anyone in COW. If you have wizards you will NOT lose.

    But Chaos also have their wizards which are extremely dangerous. And besides the chaos stacks are always massed together, it is almost impossible to find a single stack that can be attacked. I thin I will try the counter attack cause it seems to be the only way to get a single stack of chaos separated from the rest.

    A question on the sidelines: Are Vampire Counts still alive?

    Another option - try to cooperate with Your allies. Maybe single Empire faction have no possibility to make 29 armies, but treated as one they surely do. It's hard to win with Chaos alone (not impossible). My tactic is to keep my armies near my allies stacks, and when chaos attacks we fight together.

    @paradamed,

    If your generals have night fighting ability, then they can isolate Chaos stacks at will (unless the Chaos generals also have night-fighting). If your generals command a cavalry-only army, they will have enough move left to attack several times per turn, until they lose (meaning, withdraw) for the first time.

    Other than that, you are right to avoid Chaos stacks that contain a wizard - fighting these in an open battle invites unacceptable casualties.

    I think the night fighting trait should be removed from the game. Of course it would mean fewer (there would still be some or very similiar to night by random selection) night battles but it would make the game more challenging.

    i think night battles should be given to the night goblins, so when they invade the dwarfs the sky is black and it "looks" like they are underground.

    The problem is that the Sylvania generals totally rely on night battles.

    I have used the 'stacks near the road' strategy as well. I used my few stacks to hit isolated stacks to whittle his numbers down. If you can manage to get allied stacks nearby, all the better. Let your ally engage him frontly, while you manuever to a flank and roll him up. While I have not faced 29 stacks (GEEZ!!!), I have used three of my stacks to defeat 11 chaos stacks. You must be willing to a) lose a city or two; b) withdraw after inflicting max damage for minimal losses.
