    Default Hard Drive installation...

    ok... here's the situation:

i had a major issue/virus or something that rendering my computer completely messed up a while ago... so after alot of trying, restore'n, etc. i finally had to do a complete reinstall... but even in doing so, it just wasn't the same (it hanged and froze every now and then). nonetheless i reinstalled all the 'oldwindows' files and such.

i have learned to live with my computer's corkyness, but now im thinking the issue may be some type of corruption or issue with my HardDrive.

I'm wondering if I bought a new HardDrive... and took out my old one and started somewhat new, this issue would be resolved. And in doing so, i have an OEM Vista 64 OS and am wondering if i get a new HD... pull my old one... then start up my computer with my OS cd... will it work and will it be a fresh computer???

    Thanks Much

If I am understanding what you are saying it would be a fresh install yes. You could accomplish the same thing by reformating your existing HD. Before spending the money you really should do an error check and make sure you have bad sectors on that existing HD.....unless you are just looking to get a faster or larger HD.
When you reinstalled did you reformat your existing HD or just reinstall windows? If you just reinstalled then it may not have corrected the issue. Make sure you wipe out the partition and reformat that drive.

"You cannot reformat a disk or partition that is currently in use, including the partition that contains Windows. This is a safety feature so that you cannot delete Windows by accident. To reformat your computer's hard disk and reinstall Windows, restart your computer using the Windows installation disc (this is commonly known as booting from the installation disc). During the Setup process, you can repartition and reformat your hard disk and then reinstall Windows. The process will erase your files and programs, so be sure to make backups of your data and program files before you begin. For more information, search Windows Help and Support for "installing and reinstalling Windows."

Took the above right off of microsoft's link at: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...disk-partition

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ling-Windows-7 Go to this site and look for your appropriate link and just follow the steps.

It is a good idea to always repartition and reformat your drive for a "clean install" as sometimes windows files do not overwrite the existing files from the previous installation.

    Hope it helps!!!!
