    Default Comparing SSD's

I'm a bit in the dark when it comes to talking about SSD's. I've read around and can't seem to grasp what's good and what's not. For example, some seem like a good value on newegg, but then I read a review and it has a reputation of crashing. Could someone please tell me what SSD's (and their manufacturers) are good and reliable, and what a good value for the various storage capacities would be? Thanks

intel - all the line, excluding the 510, some a data ssds are intel rebrands

toshiba - some kingston use it

    marvell - c300, c400, intel 510

    samsung - samsung 470

all of those are good and without the quirks and iirrrkks that the sandforce controllers present.

The toshibas are low performers, and had a hanging problem or was a write problem? cant remember now.

The c300 law is dont update to the latest firmware

The intels are great all the problems that I knew have been solved, they are the most expensive of all options.

I havent heard much about the samsung except that they are good

I'm running a vertex 2 on my music computer, application load times and computer shutdowns gained the most noticeable improvements. Random reads are not noticeably faster and multitasking causes the system to bog down and lock up if I keep trying to do multiple things at once (anything that involves writing lots of data to the drive while doing another task or running another application), this is a problem many others experience. If I was after reliability intel is the way to go but they are the most expensive option.

The new Vertex 3 drives using Sata 6 are now the fastest drives on the market, and are reasonably priced (for their performance capabilities). Based on this experience I'm most definitely not using an SSD in either my business or gaming PC's until I see some more affordable, reliable SSD's come out.

if you buy from OCZ, like a vertex 2, beware of the 34nm and 25nm nand fiasco. the 25nm are slower than the 34nm but can be marketed as the same brand.

vertex 3 is top of the line right now, can get up to 550 mb/s sequential read if your motherboard has a port that particularly likes it (like an intel SATA6). however i refuse to pay 300 dollars for 120gb, i'm going to wait a couple of months.
