    Default A few questions

When I use my diplomat to negotiate something between another faction, sometimes I have the option of "Become protectorate". I'm not sure if that's spelled correctly, but what does it do?

Why do the rebels only have the option for "bribe" when you try and talk to them with diplomat?

Does fire at will only work when my men are standing still?

Horses have a charge bonus, how does my attack differ when charging, rather than standing still when an enemy attacks?

Sometimes I zoom up on battles, and one of my Hastati stabs a Gaul Warband, yet he still lives, why is that? Same with archers, their arrows hit, because I see the guy flinch, but he doesn't die, yet the unit as 1 hit point... what gives?

Other than frighten the enemy, what do fire arrows do?

If I want my Hastati to throw their Pila at the enemy before engaging, how do I do that? For some reason, no matter what I try to do, my Hastati just charge in without even throwing.

Is it just me, or does it seem that the Pila do more damage than arrows...

Whether my unit scale is Huge or Small, does it make any difference towards the battle itself, or does it just reduce the amount of units on the battlefield for both teams, therefore reducing lag?

The gauls seem to 'Taunt' alot, what does that do to my men?

Why do my stupid Hastati rout, when they only lost about 20 guys out of 160? If they didn't rout they could win the battle.

I often have about 5 or 6 generals in my army, is there any easy way to see if any of my generals have died, while in battle? Because when I win/lose the battle, and it goes to the campaign map, sometimes it doesn't show the "Heroic death" thing.

With my generals, I often have them lined up, in 3 rows, as I'll show below:

    ^^^^^^ ^^^^ ^^^^
    ^^^^^^ ^^^^ ^^^^
    ^^^^^^ ^^^^ ^^^^

Yet when I want to move them further up in the battlefield, I double click on the ground where I want them to move, then I click spacebar to see where they will end up, and the formation is always messed up, sometimes it overlaps eachother, sometimes they end up very far apart, but is there a way to keep the formation I had (like above), rather than having to pause, and individualy reform the generals how I want them to be? It's such a pain.

Why do my Hastati all look the same, especially their faces. It seems like a clone war

Why did my 12 year old daughter just marry some 40 year old guy?

And what is that little green square below my name?

Quite the number of questions you have, I'll post the answers to questions I can answer.

When I use my diplomat to negotiate something between another faction, sometimes I have the option of "Become protectorate". I'm not sure if that's spelled correctly, but what does it do?

When you make another faction your protectorate you it essentially becomes a vassal; only, it does not supply men, but instead gives income and adds the amount of territory that faction has to your amount. You get military access to the territory as you are supposed to be the "Protector."

Why do the rebels only have the option for "bribe" when you try and talk to them with diplomat?

My guess is that because the rebels are not really a "faction" (One that expands and uses diplomacy) and that they are rebels and probably don't want anything but freedom. On another note, some mods give the rebels diplomats so that they can trade and do other things with you.

Does fire at will only work when my men are standing still?

Yes, except in the case of siege towers, where the men will fire from the towers as they approach a wall, and in missle horses, where they throw/shoot their projectiles while moving.

Sometimes I zoom up on battles, and one of my Hastati stabs a Gaul Warband, yet he still lives, why is that? Same with archers, their arrows hit, because I see the guy flinch, but he doesn't die, yet the unit as 1 hit point... what gives?

Probably has to do with the hitboxes. (Simply where a unit can get attacked)

Other than frighten the enemy, what do fire arrows do?

Um, burn the enemy? And make elephants panic.

If I want my Hastati to throw their Pila at the enemy before engaging, how do I do that? For some reason, no matter what I try to do, my Hastati just charge in without even throwing.

Make sure they have some ammo left (they still have some blue line remaining in their unit card) and simply right-click on the enemy.

Is it just me, or does it seem that the Pila do more damage than arrows...

It probably depends on the units shooting the arrows.

The gauls seem to 'Taunt' alot, what does that do to my men?

In battle it increases the attack of the unit and may even frighten your men. During the set up it just makes them look like they're doing something other than standing.

Why do my stupid Hastati rout, when they only lost about 20 guys out of 160? If they didn't rout they could win the battle.

Frightened by the enemy, dismayed at the loss of battle/a general, or completely encircled and panicing.

Why do my Hastati all look the same, especially their faces. It seems like a clone war

It would take more space and time to create individual units. In M2TW the soldiers will [supposedly] look more unique.

Why did my 12 year old daughter just marry some 40 year old guy?

Because...you allowed her to. (Daughters ask you, sons marry on their own) Hey, at least he wasn't 60.

    And finally...

And what is that little green square below my name?

I think it is new, they implemented it to allow users to see whether or not the person's posts are good or bad.

All right, done answering your questions.

What would hurt more, if I shoved an arrow into your arm or if I stuck a great big javelin in there?

For the formation of the Generals question, select them, press Shift and 1. This puts them in line formation. Now where you want them to end up, right-click and drag. This way you can set their line perfectly. This works for all units.

For the Generals thing, group them by pressing g while selecting them, and then they will move in formation.

For the unit sizes, the smaller the size, the smaller the units. i.e. If a unit has 200 ppl on huge, it will have 168 or something like that on large. And it does reduce lag

Charge Bonus is an increase in attack when units attack another while running, this allows for a lot of casualties(sp) on the initial charge.

I think all the others were answered

Edit: the Green box shows if the user is online or not

arrows have better range and they are usually used to shoot lighter troops. i usually pick my targets and i do not make "fire at will" -> that way you can kill more units. Pilas are used on short range and units that throw them can not throw many of them. (it is easier to carry some light arrows then 3 5-killa pilas =) (i dont know how much they really weight but.. you get the picture)

Why did my 12 year old daughter just marry some 40 year old guy?
hmmm... you say 12? you sure? then maybe she needs another dad... what did you do to her!
i am just kidding, but are you sure she is 12?

I am positive she is 12, infact this happens alot.

Unlike sons, daughters become the age to marry at 12 (Their portrait changes too).

In game, son only can got marry after 16, for daughter, I'm not sure but the only thing I know is the daughter becomes mature more earlier than son. And personally I won't choose anyone above 30 to be my son-in-law, I mean in game... unless he really has good ability.

i always check my daughters age and their future husbands - they have to have at least 1 or 2 management and 1 or 2 star and 1 or 2 influence and be age between 26 and 18 - this is my criteria and usually i do not marry my 12 years old girls, cos they have to wait for the suitable man for a long time =))).
