    Default Installing new mobo/cpu...

My friend recently gave me a i7 2600k + mobo and I was wondering if I have to do a fresh install of windows 7. I've looked around asked other forums some said yes some said no people were not entirely clear. I have the cd and all I just really don't want to have to download and install etw ntw and s2 plus my music etc etc :| . Btw these are my old parts that I will be replacing: Athlon x4 635 & M4A77td mobo.

I recommend you reinstall the OS. Changing the motherboard without reinstalling the OS can cause alot of problems, even more so if you're going from AMD to Intel.

9 times out of 10 the above. However I know folks that have been the one (no pun intended).
Besides as long as you have backed up your critical stuff what do you have to loose........

I haven't had these problems with Windows 7 actually, generally only Vista/XP. I've switched several mobos with a W7 HDD, they all worked. Anyways, be sure to backup all critical files like stated above, and if you get any BSODs you'll know why.

    It's always worth a try.
