Empresses Possible?
Has anyone figured out a way to make a faction pass its crown onto female leaders? My only thought for a workaround would be to create a new culture for the specific faction, give female names for male names and vice versa, for that faction, and replace general portraits with female portraits and vice versa with males. However, this also leads to females as all generals as well. Not an ideal workaround, but its a start.

Hmm, after some googling I found this:

I think creating queens/empresses will be a very painful experience. To do it justice, you'd need to create custom models, textures, portraits, sounds, names, etc. And I'm pretty sure the "faction leader" status is only passed around general units (so yeah, all of the generals have to be female if you want a female leader). The princesses/daughters's behavior are specifically hard-coded to behave differently than males --- e.g., in descr_campaign_db.xml (daughters_age_of_consent and daughters_retirement_age). So I don't think there's a way to make both males/females into generals.
You could just mod the names/portraits of say, just 1/2 of the existing male ones, and this would give the cursory illusion of female generals/leaders. But the moment you click on a general or enter a battle, your "female" general will sound just like your male ones. Not to mention them having wives...

No, not really. Ever play RTW, get to the Amazons, and find you're fighting a male leader? Same thing.

Hard-coded only male heirs and leaders are possible.
