Microsoft Security Essentials

This seems to be a new release for microsoft. I'm running it on my laptop. Normally I use the free AVG, but the Microsoft program seems to be doing just as good a job.

Is anybody else using this? Think it's worthwhile to keep it?

I'm considering uninstalling my AVG to free up resources. Thoughts?

It's been out for a while. I've been using it, and only it, and have never gotten a virus. It takes up almost no resources. I can't say enough good things about it.

Then again, I don't watch pornography or frequent piracy websites, so...

I do prefer to use a firewall, like comodo, which is also free, but at the start its a pain, when you have to configure all the things it will block and wont, aside that its all mse.

You need a firewall and anti-malware software - one or the other isn't enough.

The mse has a built in firewall, I havent worded it right, but yes mse + comodo

I use it and think it's excellent, just no excuse not to have a piece of antivirus software with this available

Does it work with XP? I haven't seen it pop up for my desktop which is a XP Media Center.

How does it stack up agains Avast! One of the things good about that is it has a boot time scan option - it catches things that the normal scan doesn't.

Interesting post. I have recently downloaded this MS explorer9. I keep getting a popup asking me to disable AVG Free and my c-cleaner for faster running. I like my c-cleaner software and have a habit of useing it to wipe off my web browsing records each time I log off. No its not Porn. hehe

I don't use any antivirus software. I think that if one is careful enough you wont get a virus. My pc is healthier without an antivirus.

I operated with the same philosophy for quite a while. Then I got the WINDOWS ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE 08 virus, which, if it wasn't an insidious artificial intelligence from the future, sure acted like one. Absolutely everything I tried to get rid of it backfired; it was always one step ahead of me, until it eventually locked me out of my own computer and laughed at me while I slept.

Now I make sure to use something. And this Microsoft Security Essentials seems to work fine.

See what I did there? Back to topic. ho ho.

That might have been true a few years ago, but now there is a whole range of ways you can get viruses and none of them involve visiting 'dodgy sites'. Get yourself an Anti-malware package, before you end up regretting you didn't.

MSE is as good as any other free antivirus software IMO. I've used it on all of my lesser important computers while using Norton 2011 on my main PC's.
