Default So... Against HorseArchers, I have to sit in the Woods???

Ok... the more and more I play, the harder and harder I have trying to take on HorseArchers. Yes, I have heard you can sit in the woods and wait for them to use all of their ammo... but there has to be another solution.

I know someone also stated that they are not faster than yari or gg's... but why can't i catch up to them??? and anyone with decent micro skills and who uses HAs will simply retreat them quickly behind a spear unit.

Someone has to come up with another strategy to combat them... cuz sitting in the forest is lame on both parts!!! I have been messing around when ever i see a HA enthusist... but it always results in the same...

So Please Post any new ways to deal with HAs...

Kill all other units while they are running away.
With their low damage output, I tend to just ignore them.
You can also target them with your own archers if you don't have a more worthwhile target.

They aren't faster than Yari cavalry.

i have some yari that are lvl 5/6 and i am having a hard time catching em... maybe they have the speed upgrade or something???

    daniu...

you just ignore em... but dont they just eat up your archers??? do they really have a low output of damage??? im not sure, but ive had them focus fire on my archers and my unit can take only a few rounds before they get ready to rout... however, i might try it.

Well I love bow cavalry, they're not that good but having a unit or 2 is a lot of fun. And they always get caught by yari cavalry, and the speed upgrades dont work by the way...

I honestly don't even care about my archers
But if you let them shoot back, they should win a firefight vs HA.
I guess the reason I ignore them is because it takes insane micro to make them useful... so I just strain my opponent's so much that he can't use them to their full extent, making them basically worthless.
If they're too much of a bother, use your cav to shoo them away, but don't try to pursuit and you should be fine.

I usually scare of their horse archers with bow ashigarus anyway; it's very easy to do since they don't have many men and die at the same rate.

The only way they can escape this is by microing all the time, but then you can just move up.

So... HA's do not have a better range than my bow... they are not faster then my Yari Cav... they do not dishout more damage...

if that's the case... am i the only one having a difficult time with em???

ps - the only unit to out range is the general HA right?

I enjoy chasing them off. They will always recoil back to the far corners of the map. At the same time you can engage his main army (i dont bring archers so thats pretty easy for me), and then swing your cav around, leaving the horse archers behind and smash his rear.

Pretty much my method of dealing with horse archers is ignoring them. Dont let them with you, get your infantry in there as soon as you can. The quicker you engage, the less casualties you take in the initial skirmish phase.

Bow Monks outrange them as well so you can screen them with Yari ashigaru and still retaliate with your superior range.

if you micro HA, as enemy archer shoot at point they would reach in future, not their current location, you could easily dodge most of approaching arrows, which usually means that shooting at em isn't the best idea.

It does require heavy micro, but not I believe it to be not insane. You should try it out. Just simple back & forth with right timing makes them quite an unit.
Spear cav nearby for support isn't too bad of an idea too.

The best idea is to hit them with cav, but if you can't, I think wooding or engaging with main force while you chase them down is only options, or options which I can think of.

Bow Cavalry have a speed of 10 while Yari Cavalry have a speed of 12. Speed upgrades don't work, so you don't have to worry about that yet.

Also, any form of archer beats them in an archer exchange, even Bow Ashigaru. This is because they are large targets, being on horses, and have low damage output, being limited in size. So either chase them down with horse or use any form of ranged weapon to out damage them easily.

Be careful though, as they are still stronger cavalry than light cavalry. Don't assume they are weak at melee/charge just because they have bows.

Yep, currently bugged. Speed upgrades do absolutely nothing.

All-melee armies are basically wet-dreams for Bow Cav.

    i dont understood your point....

foot achers have more acuracy and own horse achers....so use archers...

if u play with full melle army...so yes, u will loose...or maybe try to stay on the woods

Matchlocks kills cav so fast....the problem is the range...but if u get close enough....they will route...

Horse archers have great accuracy, starting at 60 I believe. But horse archers have huge hit boxes so perhaps that has some affect. So they do get destroyed by foot archers indeed.

I <3 Bow Cavalry, especially when my opponent is an artillery camper or insists on playing defensively with some positional advantage. Revenge is best served cold! Just have a couple support units, and with a bow specialism you can get 175 range, slaughtering anyone who hasn't strongly invested in missile veterans. I named one of mine "Pestilence" since I can spend about 15 minutes shooting the hell out of half a dozen units with near impunity, and all with a lone horse archer. If that isn't enough, I bring out my 2nd: "Prosperity." Prosperity for me! Muahahaha!
