    Default Help, everyone hates me!

    Hey all,

This is my first game of Shogun 2 (long time Total War fan though) playing as the Chokosabe and for some reason all the clans hate me.

I'm not quite sure how it happened in the first place, since most of them were hostile to me even before I left the island I start on. Also how do I reverse situation since most refuse my requests for peace even when I offer them military access or small payments?

Mmmm...I think you just going to have to bunker down for a while and defend your island. Build up your troops. Whilst they all seem to hate you, look at who likes and who hates other clans. Once your troop stacks are ready pick a target and take them out. With troops and territory will (hopefully) come some respect. "Enemy of my Enemy", "Daimyo honour", etc.

    Otherwise, you're screwed.

Even with all the hate, I've been managing fine though. The Kikkawa clan have been a pain since they have far more resources than I and at this point I only trade with the Nanbans.

I don't believe I did, I've been back stabbed by Kikkawa and other clans who were my allies. I may have declared war on the one clan on my island who I had an alliance with because I wouldn't have a standing army at home to defend against them backstabbing me.

This is why everyone hates you. Not sure how far in the campaign you are, but if possible slow down or halt expansion and get rid of those negative penalties by staying idle and researching tea ceremony, it will take a bit but u can recover. Defend your land and check if factions are interested in peace imo, specially Ito and/or Ouchi whom you might need to form an alliance with later before the realm divides.

I think I'm at 1563 and am currently researching tea ceremony. Ouchi were the first to declare war on me and the Ito just broke off their alliance with me (for no reason). Will being idle work or should I just loot and plunder? (and try to win like that)

No, don't loot. It's not considered a very honorable thing to do and when the word spreads of your actions the other factions will think less of you, resulting in more negative penalties.

Take the time u spend 'idle' to upgrade your infrastructure and/or economy while defending and if possible weakening your enemies military strength without expanding your territory. Beat them silly and they will be more interested in peace.

As time passes and the penalties from dishonoring treaties decrease form your alliances and resume your rampage. Some penalties cannot (currently) be avoided but whatever u do, never ever backstab/betray/declare war on someone u have an alliance with and try to avoid looting cities.

As the game goes on the negative factors that you have will go down if you stay on your island and build up your economy or army etc. Looting and plundering provinces will decrease your daimyo's honor, it will severely damage the buildings in that province and there will be a huge resistance to your occupation. It will affect your diplomacy with other clans, you need to repair all the buildings and you will need to leave a big garrison to pacify the peons! That or you could build a citadel on that province but then again your global growth will suffer!

    So... choose wisely, lol.

If you want to get rid of an ally that is fairly weak and has only one province ( minor clans you made alliances with in the beginning to secure fronts ) you can use Monks to incite revolts Works a charm. Honourable? No, but you won't get diplohits
One’s back is vulnerable, unless one has a brother.

Even easier way with a higher success rate is just use a ninja to burn his farmlands turn after turn. This is cheaper and has a higher succes rate.

Seeign as they have 1 province the people will starve if you burn their only farm. Works particularly well if they built a rice exchange and stronghold (as the dumb computer likes to do)

Trade routes? Establish trade relations as early as possible. I saw that you're not trading with the Satake though the probability of them trading with you at this point is probably low. Specialize your provinces and remove unnecessary buildings and disband any surplus units.

Looking at your last screenshot, you can build cheap ships from Tosa for trading ships. You have Iyo, Awaji and Tamba for more food! You also have Settsu, specialize it to produce Metsuke and make them oversee your high income cities so you can tax more.

    Don't ever betray alliances.

Don't ever loot towns unless you have incredibly high honor and great relations with everyone.

Don't make a peace treaty, then break it within 4-6 turns. Wait two years to be safe.

EDIT: Also, don't expand anymore at all, but you can go out and beat the armies of your enemies and they will be more willing to make peace. Don't take their cities, just crumble their military using your large army.

Sorry, I could not read it, the text is so small. I am on a 55 inch television sitting 14 feet away at 1600x900 resolution. I might go to wal-mart and buy some binoculars

I'll hunker down for a bit and if they continue to hate me, I'll just convert and purge the heathens in the name of Jesus.
