Default Key Buildings On or Off?

Well not to long ago, I was hosting a game. This guy joins and tells me to turn off key buildings. Shortly after I asked him why, no matter how much I asked him for what purpose did they need to be disabled he could not give me a proper justification as to why. Then after awhile he started to get frustrated with my curiosity, so before he left I turned them off just to get the game in. I defeated him with them off, although that doesn't matter I believe that having them on sometimes provides a better feel to the game. What do you guys think?

    Did his strategy involve camping?

How do they find them to be an annoyance? The only way I can find them to be one is if they are in the way, as in providing cover for the enemy or forcing you to take two seconds to walk around them.

It didn't. It involved me running straight at him and I won within he first 5 minutes I believe. Maybe less.

The only reasons I could think of removing the victory locations would be either because of a perceived imbalanced in victory location placement, or because they wanted to employ a camping strategy that requires them to forfeit a large portion of the map.

In my games, it's rare any actually gets captured; fights do tend to break out around them, but not in an annoying or same-old-same-old way IMHO.

I'd have to agree because you see the victory points there, and you know that you COULD benifit from them, but at the very same time you can't exactly go and capture it thinking your opponent will just let you uncontested, however. At the very same time you can't allow them to capture it either, also if they're the type that likes to camp in one part of the map. That won't work necessarily the way they'd like it to because it's just going to be allowing you to buff up your army even more before you start chasing them down.

    Isn't that a good thing?

All in all - Key Buildings > Campers.

I think so, which is why I prefer Key Buildings over no Key Buildings.

    Yeah.
Just had a battle started vs someone camping, and when he realized I was about to take my time to capture the buildings in a sound defensive stance, he left.

After several games with them on you realise it forces maps to be played the same way over and over and is a nub mode. team games with good players are much better without them on.

The only reason the buildings were added was to stop spawn camping IE nubness. carrot on a stick for players that dont want to move. A good team game has more than enough movement without some carrot on a stick, anyway the idea has failed the worse player loses the dojos 90% of the time and just ends up facing a better player with some silly bonuses. Camping was never a problem in good games it was at the newer end of the scale that it was "seen" as a problem.

Anyway they will never be on in my hosted games and i doubt any decent tournaments will use them so its all good, having the option to turn them off is fine.

Key buildings should be on at all times in my opinion.

It gives you goals on the map for which you need to fight, a sense of purpose to the whole battle.

What Swoosh saying is true, but not exactly. I often find myself leaving a very good position on high ground in order to get an important key building.
I believe that 2 vs 2 games can be good with or without buildings, it all depends on the players.

The most important thing about key buildings, is that they reduce the effectiveness of camping. Remove that and there will be no real penalty for players choosing to camp.

depends on the map, some maps they are a must have.To be honest i think it also depends on what build you bring, some archer builds will make the bow dojo a must have while a nag monk build with the moral shrine is insane.

I like them they add a bit of flavour to the battles but some of my clan mates just find them annoyance which i can understand.

Theres are dozens pon dozens of reasons for and against key buildings. As mentioned by bushy above, whether or not key buildings are needed, all depends on the map. I think flatter maps like rice fields, and alpine ridge don't need key buildings, simply because engagements tend to happen pretty quickly because there are not terrain advantages to be siezed.

Also if you press key buildings you can change the map, at least that is what happens when I've done it in 2v2.

In matchmaking I prefer them on as they deter camping. In battle list with friends though, it makes the games a lot faster and straight forward with them off.
