Make AI Generals survive longer?

Is there a better and more effective way of making AI generals survive longer? The type of generals I am talking about are the "important historical" ones, such as Oda Nobunaga, Uesugi Kenshin, Takeda Shingen, etc.

The AI in my campaigns always gets one of its most important generals killed. I have not been able to have an epic campaign as the Uesugi, and reenact the legendary battles between Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen because AI Takeda Shingen manages to get himself killed on the campaign map.

My question is simple. Is there a way to keep these important generals from dying that are in the AI possession? I can't bare to play as the Uesugi, knowing that most of the time, AI Takeda Shingen is going to die before I will ever meet him on the battlefield.

Nope. Not really because the AI also uses their generals like cavalry... and then the generals collapse like a wet taco and DIEEEEEEE!

So just rush the Takeda and kill Shingen yourself!
