Default castle gate sabotage trumps all?

When a player conquers a castle and the structure is damaged it is impossible to train ANY units until the castle is fixed. This suggests sabotaging castle gates (instead of sabotaging samurai buildings) is the most effective (and cheapest) way to prevent your enemies from training units, any units...

AI may not have that issue

You sure about that? Sabotaging samurai buildings does seem to stop the AI from producing those units.

but i doubt sabotaging just the gates would have that effect, no evidence tho

Sabotaging Castle Gates doesn't let you produce Ashigaru, I'm not sure about other samurai. Also, Sabotaging the gates removes the repression effect from the castle, causing some chaos.

Nice, I was not aware of that. I am definitely going to start doing this when I am trying to incite revolts.

If you're human, a damaged castle (gates) means you cannot produce any units: ashigaru or samurai. If the same rule applies to the AI...

p.s. to test the above, target some under-defended AI settlement, preferably with some samurai structures in 1) with your ninja burning the gates, 2) attack with your army after ninja has succeeded on the gates; DO NOT target the gates with your archers, 3) attack with your army without the ninja having any success on the gates; DO NOT target the gates with your archers; shoot all defender, do not damage the walls or the gates...

I am pretty sure, in case #2, you cannot produce ANY units (samurai or ashigaru); in case # 3, you can produce whatever the castle could produce before the siege.

When the gate is sabotaged the ai cannot recruit ashigaru at that location as long as it gets repaired, but they can recruit samurai if those building are available at that province. When those get sabotaged aswell the ai cannot recruit any units at this location anymore.

I guess, the extra recruitment slots the AI gets still stay open if the castle is sabotaged (the castle is the structure that provides recruitment slots). At least, now we know how to knock out our human opponents' production of ANY units

If you're a human you can't recruit ashigaru, but you can still recruit from the dojos
