First it’s nice to be able to post a question rather then complain about it not working.

Back to Retainers.

Having looked through the Encyclopaedia it just mentions how to get them and what they do.

What I need to know is;

The affect of any particular Retainer minimized by having more then one?

Do they add any extra cost to units?

Depending on your rank you have 1-5 retainer slots in which you can put any of your retainers. You can freely redistribute them any time you wish. Depending on which retainers you put in those retainer slots you will get certain bonuses during battle which is free of any cost.

They don't add extra cost to units, but every slot you unlock (as your avatar levels up) costs 200 initial cost.

Another thing I found out last night while playing an Avatar battle against my son, I used three Retainers but he only saw one. I guess it's like that for everybody.

You only see the opponent's retainers that create a disadvantage for your own troops (like -1 morale for all ashigaru), but not the ones giving buffs to his (like +2 melee attack for swords).
You can tell which of your your retainers your opponent can see, they're the ones with the red border.

Where do you find this information?

I looked through the encyclopedia and it was not much info.

Presently I cannot give you any more rep points I have to spread it around other wise I would.
