Default Why the awesome minor clans?

    Well... not really awesome.

    Back on topic:
Just bought TWS2 and currently playing as the Date(H/H), while playing, I noticed something that makes me sort of irritated about the minor clans:

    They go on a samurai-recruiting spree... 1 turn-per-samurai.

It started on turn 12-20(not so sure) when the Mogami clan turned it's forces from a pitiful collection of ashigarus to a fully-professional samurai-filled army. Defeating it was a hell of a job to do, but it was also so fun to beat. The other minor clans that I know soon followed in this recruitment frenzy after I destroyed the Mogami. And you know what's more funny? The major clans' armies were the exact opposite(meaning they have a spamful of ashigaru units that are no match for the minors, which may be a reason why major clans get wiped out so easily.) Though this may be a nuisance to me, it does not change the fact that the game is very amusing to play, and still not getting tired of it.

So... anyone experienced this too in their campaigns?

Maybe because major clans are very aggressive , so they build armies and neglect buildings , especially in early campaign , whereas minor clans perhaps invest more in buildings as they are less aggressively expanding .

however ,i think it's not so clear cut , maybe you were lucky in your game, but in my game the difference of army composition between AI minor ad major clans isn't really striking , most of the time it's more or less the same

Damn. I hope my enemy changes it's army composition soon, the Date waits for a real fight.

As for the minor clans, they won against the Tokugawa and Oda clans because of their godlike forces early in the game.

Oda has too many enemies within 1 army stack radius, so 2 enemies can attack and wipe their stack and their castle in one turn.

Tokugawa start as vassal, so they can't make more alliance to secure themselves, or declare war to expand their holding. Most of the time they stuck as 1-2 province clan.

Yeah almost every vanilla campaign I've played Oda is wiped out on the first turn. Darth mod gives them a few turns more but haven't played one game yet where they lasted more than 10 turns.

Well theres lots of mods with Samurai unit limits. I know S2R and TROM both have it. And there is a stand alone gameplay tweak by Selahaddin that lets you limit samurai, if you don't want the other features of the major mods.

I am getting the exact opposite.

I have expensive samurai armies, but cheap &%¤ ashigaru archer armies just shot them apart.

the computer does have a unhealthy habit of fielding too many samurai.....kinda annoying...ifghting stacks full of nothing but samurai has been my campaign slightly annoying cause it results in me having to spam them as ashigaru cant hold up against samurai type troops for long

Major basically means playable in Shogun 2, don't assume because a clan is called a minor that its going to sit there all passive like and wait to get steamrolled like in Empire.

I personally like that almost any clan can become dominant given the right circumstances and all. It makes sense as power of many clans rose and fell as the Sengoku era went on, so I am glad to see this element reflected in the game.

Unfortunately, the downside of this feature that you're glad of is that it almost doesn't stop recruiting. That means if you just have a full stack in turn 15, this gives you a big disadvantage, especially when it comes to attacking a settlement in the early stages of the game, and you're about 5 turns away from your target that has little resistance... suddenly hardened samurai troops pop out. That's just a little unfair when you already fought a decent fight then the AI cheats you from your goal by doing this. What's more is the fact that the enemy clan spreads like wildfire because of this... horde-style of conquering. Where's the strategy?
