Default "Crazy" (but not too much :) ) sub mod ideas

a topic for all of us who would like a certain idea included/developed ( maybe a bit "crazy" or "complicated" to implement in the main mod ) but since aren't familiar with moding would like it, if someone else made a sub-mod out of it..

    for various reasons ,like

    -bulk of work
    -complications
-main mod's ,game engine's "limitations" (like the unique settlements, once considered impossible..) etc

some ideas just don't make it in the main Third Age TW mod and would be better as sub-mods..post em here!

if anyone familiar with moding likes one and has the time and will to realise it this could be his "brainstorming" pool..

ps..try not to be just vague in your "rough scetch of a sub mod to be", giving some details on how your idea could be "translated" into gameplay
and if you should add-change something in your first idea ,just edit your first post instead of multiposting at fragments (maybe just notify that you edited it if "necessary")

    here's mine..

regarding "special" alternative (like the fellowship mini-game) mini-campaigns...why not make a "the hunt for gollum" separate one ??? following the fan - film's concept ,tolkien -experts could fill in - correct details and adapting it into a mini-game campaign (like the "fellowship " one in the current version.. )

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    characters ("factions") could be...

gandalf..that should try and get to gondor in order to gather information or maybe even other places

aragorn ... searching and following gollum around ,battling with orcs and avoiding the nazguls *

gollum...a very high subterfuge spy (so that he could have a great line of sight and moving points..or assassin ? gollum would kill aragorn but not the other way around)...

sauron...having spies and assassins with medium subtferfuge..so that he would'nt be imba from the beginning (yet as the turns pass, he could send out the nazguls..high subt assassins...and if the player doesn't progress much, he will catch up with him and even most likely beat him, as he will anyway outnumber him in resources..)

the various "other people" like merchants ,spies ,diplomats ,assassins (and why not just for this mini-game princesses, for variety's sake) and the various military units..non playable of course.. (they could all be renamed (as "wanderers" ,"taver owners' daughter" and so on) and "processed" so that, their purpose could ,potentially, also be the following..

when playing as aragorn or gollum in order to unlock events-screens at some places (like in the "fellowship" mini-game )....instead of always beeing told where to go wouldn't it be cool if ,at times , the other units' traits and stuff were info on were to go later on ? this way ,one should try and spy on "lower subt." characters, like merchants and low spies - assassins in order not only to raise his own subterfuge but also in order to advance better into the game.. since traits and texts in character screens are custom this shouln'd be a problem.. )

playing with aragorn ,for example..you spy on a merchant..and instead of reading that "not all men have a taste for women" trait (happened always in the medieval TW ii ,at times lol) the text could be..

""in the settlement x region ,i heard rumors of a strange lurking small creature"".. or ""saw a terryifing black rider roaming west of mirkwood"

especially through ancillaries this could be really customised and specified in order to help -narrow down the search - or avoiding/escaping.. .

.furhter searching and spying-out info could eventually get you to the right place for an event screen...it would be a real detective - warrior work ,the ranger way,for aragorn and a hiding-lurking one for smeagol... a "hunt for gollum"..

i think it would add an rpg feeling to the mini-game

maybe one could also contact the movie makers and ask for permission of using various scenes -frases etc afterall its a non-profit fan film for a non-profit fan (and extra-fUn) game !

    * i don't know if it's programing/coding-wise possible to have aragorn as a spy and still being possible to have him battling..maybe a way could be to just make him a general and "bind" him a spy (named also "aragorn")..this way the bodyguards would be his fellow rangers or he could hire (having a limited amount of money) some in order to remain a single unit..
(even though he most likely travelled alone,i can't think of another way possible of making it believable..since he would anyway have to battle at some times against orcs ,rebels and maybe nazguls ,like the characters do in the "fellowship" mini game)

Nice thread Idea Noobas. Anyways, here's one impossible and horrifyingly tedious sub-mod dream: regional flag captains for every unit with some subtle skin variations between unit companies from different regions. I think it would be fun for folks who like to role play units

maybe on a small scale. afaik flag captains are only assigned through edu's, unless there's some way to assign conditionals in the EDU (which would be awesome) the above suggestion would require atleast 15,000 edu slots.

just saw this one in the forum

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=375202

    it's a "Call of Warhammer - Third Age" cross-over !!! yet only for custom - battles ...

would it be possible that someone ,expanded the idea into a "full" cross-over ???
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
let's say that " a chaos storm of never before seen intensity and power caused the partial mingling of the two universes" or something like that.. (who cares ? it would be just an excuse
and use the middle-earth map ,implementing some of the CoW factions..maybe just "chaos" and "orks" ..the first hording from the deep desert ,maybe that rebel village between rhun and harad
and the orks starting a "waaaaaaaagh" from the far north ,that rebel village on the top left of the misty mountains

if playable ,maybe start with a small ( but capable of surviving or capturing a first "weak" settlement" in order to just retrain) army and every now and then missions could occur, like capture the x settlement and build a temple or something and maybe reinforcements could respawn...

if chaos conquers all rhun and harad settlements it could become a real faction and also recruit (instead of just retraining) and the same goes for orks ,conquering the mountain (misty and gundabad) orcs's settlements

    just a "crazy" idea..

I have debated over whether or not the Warhammer factions should invade Middle Earth, but the issue with that is the Culture UI. I would either a) Force every side to have a generic culture (Good ME factions would have one while the Bad will have another. Same goes for the Warhammer factions) or b) give the Warhammer factions the UI that is currently being used by the current Middle Earth factions.

I love the idea of Warhammer vs LOTR, but instead of an invasion i think it may be better to have the worlds merge.. some kind of dimensional merge or some junk. That way you could have factions that would normally be good fighting one another for control over land both new and overcrowded. I think it would make for an epic battleground.
And not just custom battles but on a huge campaign map full of Warhammer/LOTR lore and settlements.

    @ holy pilgrim

how many cultures can there be ?? cause maybe just for this one (and why not in general) would make more sense if "followers of melkor" culture got split in "orcs" and "evil men" ..and implement an "empire" one (being theocratic -imperialistic bigots..hehe)..that way "similar" factions could either merge or prevail one on another (but directly recruit-retrain)

orKs - isengard / misty mountains /gundabad (what a waaaaaaagh would that cause eh ? )
    chaos - mordor / rhun / harad
dark elves - w.h. elves (the only to be,allied with m.e form the very beginning) / high e. / silvan e.
    w.h. dwarves - dwarves
empire - dale / gondor / rohan / eriador (this could be tricky..cause "empire" culture would'nt make sense for m.e. factions ,but if kept diferent how could they recruit-retrain right after an eventual settlement conquest, like the other "couples" would ? )

w.h. factions are overpowered in relation to m.e factions so m.e. factions should outnumber them..

starting diplomacy should be maybe changed too

and for what does "UI" stand for ?

why not include nuclear arsenal to the mix? imagine Gondor or Rohan with couple of ICBMs... then te council of Elrond would look something like this:

The ring must be taken deep in to Mordor and cast in the firey chasm it camed from! - says Elrond
One can't just simply walk in to Mordor, it's a folly! - says Boromir
Then in the middle of the terace a red button appears; little hobit named Frodo BANGiss pushes it, turn's to the Elrondf and Boromir and says:

    Which Mordor?

    crazy idea, i know...

maybe someone could also add captain america as a gondor general (with a bonus in "shield wall" of course ) and bin laden as a haradrim general with flying (but kamikaze..if not it would be too much) units

    you're a real genius minas moth ...

    "In empty lands."

Someone posted the quirk that Minas Tirith is unassailable thanks to it's wall. This led to this from me.

All of Gondor-all the WORLD-could burn, but the Tower of Guard holds forever. With trade from everywhere, it can support a decent army all on it's own, and reclaim the world.

That'd be an interesting campaign, to be honest. Gondor has Minas Tirith and ONLY that, and has to expand out as best it can. Actually, that'd be interesting for all factions. Everyone starts from their capitals, but everything else is rebels or even empty. No Barracks event as such, but some sort of 'Tech Up' building that then allowed the new tier of stuff. Expensive, of course. No Slave army scripts, no Garrison scripts except perhaps at the capitals, no money scripts...It could work, I think.

    shonos

i don't think that it could ever be done..there's a tutorial about heroes' abilities and something like that could never be implemented..as it's way beyond the possible abilities..on the other hand i saw somewhere some guy's model of saruman (that was builded on a canon's skeleton...) that was able to fire projectiles.. but it hadn't any animations..so, who knows ? maybe they could improve that one..
