Icon5 Icons on town bars, what do they mean?

This is on the campaign map, 3D view. I can easily tell the little smiling peasant faces or the wheel/cross to designate population happiness and religion. But I come across icons that leave me scratching my head and even after sending a ninja by the town to potentially see what the thing represents I still have no clue.

One I'm looking at right now in game is what looks like two grey clad fellows standing side by side. Does that mean there's a ninja in the town? I'm trying to convert the province to Christianity, is that causing something?

I've tried looking online and in the manuals but nothing is forthcoming as to what these little icons actually mean.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I think 2 grey guys mean that nothing is training in that city, and 2 green guys mean that something is training.
Or perhaps 2 grey guys indicate that something IS training, and no guys indicate that nothing is training. I dont remember XD

    This.
There is also an icon (something like crossed hammer and sickle) if a building is being constructed.

I think I worked it out. The two fellows are supposed to be a male and female family member. It just so happened to be grey because that was the clan colour I was looking at. It designates the clan's stronghold.

Which leads to another question: what does the clan's stronghold do differently than other provinces? So far it seems to just be where my family members spawn.
