Default The Punishing of the Wayward Child

A heavy boot crushed down on the spring bloom... The vast poppy fields of Flanders spread out before the marching army... Soon the poppies would be devestated by twelve thousand boots, hooves and wheels...

The French Army marched... Would Burgandy survive the Spring...

    -------------------------------------------

Chatillon was occupied without a fight... Many men and materials were moved through during the night... Fifteen thousand French were marching towards Dijon... Towards a wayward child that needed to be punished...

Philip was awoken by the knock on his door. He grumbled and put on a shirt and some pants as he was sleeping in nothing but his Slacks. He walked over to the door and opened wondering who in their right mind would wake him up this early in the morning. a young boy walked into his room and bowed. The boy was not older then 14 and he was already shaking from his nervous being shot

" Your grace The french have arrived. They are amassing at the the city of Arras and Chatillon. our scouts have reported that only 15000 of our men are armed and ready to fight. What are you orders Your grace ? " The boy bowed once more as Philip thought about his next moves. of course he could just send half his men to fight the french at both towns. But that would mean he have to pray that they succeed. His allies England where powerful and he would need to speak to their commander asap.

Philip looked at the boy and nodded his head " Tell the English commander that i wish to speak to him about the defense of the city. Meanwhile their My commander to send 6500 of our men to the city of Arras. and send 7500 to the city of Chatillon. keep the remaining men in the this location. Now go and inform the England commander of my plans " The boy nodded his head and ran off to find the english commander that hopefully was ashore already .

Phlilp took a slip of his wine and closed his eyes. Today was going to be a long battle in the defense of his small kingdom of sorts . He will defend it to the last man and he will not surrender to anyone.. Not until he takes his last breath and dies with his men

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Southern French Army was encamped just south of Chatillon... When the sentries called out crys of alarm...

A young commander by the name of James had control of the 1580 men that was heading to the town of Chatillon the rest where coming as Reinforcements . He was fairly young and did not have that much experience in the art of battle . He was born of a noble family and although he was the commander for the duke. He only got that honor because of the guy that was to lead the charge got sick because he drank to much the night before. But James was not stupid he knew how to somewhat how to organized his battle lies. He ordered his 2 units of Calvary to head towards the flanks of his army. He ordered his heavy Calvary to the middle of his lines. Next he ordered his French mounted archers to either side with his Calvary. He also ordered his Feudal knights to the front also. This was going to be a bloody battle he feared the rest of the army was moved to the front.

    Break down of James command
    64 units of light Calvary
    32 mounted Archers
    128 Feudal knights
    128 peasants
    320 Town militia
    480 Mercenarys
    300 Levi Pikeman
    160 lancers
    448 Knight Templar's
    = 1580 Men

5920 men where left behind in the other city as Reinforcements. They compose of basically the same type of units

ooc - Let the battle begin. Just i do not know how reinforcements are used though. But i assume they get factored in as they are still part of the force of 7500 but they are not with the main group

A letter is sent from duke Owain to duke Phillip that reads over 10,000+ English, Spanish, Brenton, and Gascon troops are in France and that the Burgundians are adviced to delay the french, avoid battle as much a possible, and conserve their strength against the superior french numbers so the allies can occupy western France and so the Burgundians will have engouh strength to meet up with the allied armies and crush the French Royal Army

This is widly disseminated through Burgandy and this letter reaches commander James in Chantillion

James Receives the letter and reads it over. The news was good for his men. Now he all he had to do was delay the french and wait for the other troops come or hope the french go back and fight those 10,000 troops in the south of France. He wondered if he should of waited for this word before he committed his forces to fighting the French head on. He already retreated to the outskirts of the down away from the french lines. a Yong officer from the Calvary came to him and bowed.

" Commander may i suggest that you delay the french by setting fire to the buildings leading up to the city and then setting some unimportant buildings in the city on fire also ?. This would delay the french and allowed our troops to get back to the main city with the others. Although i fear that it was not so good in the north. We may have to reinforce our troop in the north also. What are your orders ? "

James thought about it for a second " Tell the commander in the north to begin to retreat slowly to the main town. On the way have him delay the french in any way possible. Also inform the duke of your plan and report back to me. I think we should do that to delay the French for as long as possible. Have one unit of our men on begin to set fire to the grass in front of the city . Have the other troops began to slowly retreat .

The young officer nodded his head and went off to do his mission . James smiled and turned to face his men as they began to retreat slowly back into the city. He watched as the men of one unit of spearman set fire to the grass that was in front of the city. James smiled as he walked away from the fire that was quickly spreading across the field. He would care less if it burned the city. He was delaying the french for as long as possible and that is all that counted

Phillip looked outside of his palace and saw people in the streets in fear. He turned around to face his commander that has just recently returned from the city he was suppose to defend. He looked at the commander and sneered. He had failed to delay the troops of the french and now the city was in danger . But that was not the least of his concern. His northern commander had not reported back to him and he wondered if the man was dead or not.

" Commander James. I want you and some of the men to get the Citizens out of the city. have the Civilians get all their belongings and then set fire to the house that they where in. Also i want you to find some Fresh recruits and see if you can convince them to defend the city with the remaining men of your army. you have your orders not get to it "

He turned to face his other commander Paul. Paul was a little older then James and at least had some combat experience with fighting the french

" Commander paul i want archers on the walls of the city. I then want the rest of the men to stay behind the gates and wait for my signal to open them. If the french want a fight they are going to get it . But first we need to get all of our citizens out of the city you have your orders now get to it " Both Paul and James bowed and left the room.

Phillp took another slip of his wine and looked out the window once again. He was taking a risk by burning the people homes. But he had no choice he had to delay the french and Deny then anything of value. he hoped that he got some fresh recruits to join in the defense. He was not happy though about his men Deflecting in the North. He will punished those men if he defeat the french that he vows

    Ooc -
Roll to see how many Citizens join in the defense of the city please

If they are for RPs sake that is fine. But please clarify if these are troops are from Burgundy or if they sorta appeared out of nowhere.
