Spartan Phalangites

Hey, I love i mean love rsII, but I have a question. For Sparta's pike units, why is there only a spartan "heavy" phalangite? Am I missing something or is there an equivalent of a spartan (medium I guess) phalangite? It would really help for my army composition to have some lighter yet still strong pike units.

Theres only 2 Phalangite units for sparta AFAIK. Perioikoi and Spartan Heavy Phalangites. The perioikoi being the less brutal of them (both are extremely deadly as Phalanx and as Heavy infantry).

Tho theres always the Levy Pikemen units that are available to all Greek/Hellenic factions everywhere. Theyre quite cost efective but they wont hold against heavier infantry no to mention Roman Cohorts.

Thanks for the quick reply, It's hard to choose between those two units. The periokoi are pretty cost effective compared to the heavy phalangites, but don't fare as well in heavy combat. I don't know for sure, but I think i can recruit two periokoi and still have money leftover or one heavy phalangite. That's why I was looking for a medium phalangite. But this solves my question.

No, thats just a refernce to their gear and role in the battle line.For your pike line, I'd reccomend the pike just above levy level whatever that is as your main unit.

i know that officers give a good looking ,but they position create gaps that turns phalanx less efective and levy pikemen many times useless ...would be greate change their position to behind the phalanx... or have the option to not use then
