Editing "export_descr_unit.txt" in version 1.3
Hi all,
I am new here so please forgive me if this has been answered before...
I have the Gold edition (patch 1.3) of Medieval 2 -- I am looking to edit the EDU (export_descr_unit.txt)
I have not found any directions on how to find the EDU in my 1.3 installation. Am I out of luck?
thanks

Re: Editing "export_descr_unit.txt" in version 1.3
You have to unpack the files to get the export_descr_unit.txt or most mods will have it unpacked for you.

OK
1. What can I use to unpack the file? (I know either patch 1.1 or 1.2 came with an "unpacker")
2. Where is the EDU located?
Thanks!

Re: Editing "export_descr_unit.txt" in version 1.3
Hi, I think this is kind of off-topic, but in the EDU, is it safe to remove commented lines(the one with semi-colon) in the unit stats.
For example:
...................
stat_pri.........
;stat_pri_ex... <---like this one...
stat_pri_attr..
...................
Thanks in advance

Any line that has a semi-colon infront of it is not read by the game engine. These are left overs from RTW so it will not work.

Oh, okay thanks... I'm gonna delete it to simplify and shorten our unit's EDU stats so it can be more readable

Re: Editing "export_descr_unit.txt" in version 1.3
OK
So I followed the directions to make a .bat file and that worked fine (thanks!)
Now, when I click on the .bat file to open it and press the yyy command -- the window opens for a split second and closes. Does anyone know how to keep that window open so that I can type a command in there? So Close!
I'm flyin' by the seat of my pants here...

No it's not interactive as it's based on the Unpacker.exe.

Re: Editing "export_descr_unit.txt" in version 1.3
Well... I solved the CMD window issue with a little help from google.
Now, when the CMD window is open, there is a message saying "unpacker is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file"
And to think that all I wanted to do was give some other countries the ability to use stakes with their archers... Now I need to see this through just because I've come this far! Any more help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Editing "export_descr_unit.txt" in version 1.3
You just want the EDU so download my attachment instead (in the tutorial at the bottom) and use the .bat file that will extract all the .txt files and you are done.

Re: Editing "export_descr_unit.txt" in version 1.3
You have to use the unpack_all.bat unless Ishan gave you one specific for unpacking your file(s).

DOH!
I didn't even see the Tools folder with the unpacker inside of it. Ran the unpacker and I now have the file.
That's what happens when a newb like me tries to mess with game files -- I have learned a lot though...
Thanks!

I learned this one the hard way, too. And you're welcome.
