    Default Useless Units

What units do you guys think are not worth it, or serve a purpose so specialized they'll never be used, in multilayer of course.

I think Hero units, unless its a 22k battle.

Light cav, yari ashigaru, and bow cav

Even veteran yari ashigaru can't handle fighting anything but yari ashigaru or if they're lucky some cav that's dumb enough to charge them.

While Light cav has its uses, it's almost always better to spend your money somewhere else unless you can't and you really want a cavalry unit.

Bow cav, well obviously this isn't rome total war and bow cav is much more limited in it's effect. They're also pretty expensive and you're better off getting a yari cav.

I use light cav and yari ashigaru together as a unit. Or i use light cav with matchlocks in front of them. Both are more effective and cheaper then just a straight cav force, however a very good player can pick them apart, doesnt happen often though.

Try playing some top30 players with an army that's 80% ash. They'll thank you for the free victory

I never see Kisho Ninja (herp derp what a joke) in MP and I suppose they're too expensive yet fragile to serve any real purpose.

Actually I think any unit you can't leave alone for one minute without them breaking is worthless. Which apparently is almost every non-veteran unit except monks in MP.

    I'm talking about 10k+ battles.

You can have 3:1 light:yari cav and you'll still get plastered. Light cav is basically useless for anything but disrupting enemy archers and scouting, even a low level general is likely to kick the ass of a light cav unit by himself.

Yari ashigaru shouldn't be used in 10K+ just because of how fragile they are and how much more effective nagi samurai are. They've got no armor or morale and can't really serve as much besides fodder in 10k+. Basically any other form of anti-cav is more effective in 10k+

wrong. I would die without yari spear and light cav. use the spears only to vs cav, they will win, even vs great guard. Hold them to the flanks.

The true winner for the most worthless unit is

    Yari Samurai.

me to. Usually my light cav, and ashigaru are my last units left. Together they destroy the enemy cavalry and right about the time my line is about to break they smash into the back and finish the battle. I can post some replays if you guys want.

The only unit that is truly useless is pretty much Yari Hero.

The thing about Yari ashigaru is that there is so many of them. Even with a few of them so can you easily protect all of your ranged units against enemy cav.
You can also use Yari ashigaru as fodder and overall sacrifice them.

But Yari heroes is a really small unit. A cav can easily ride around them and still successfully charge the enemy ranged/general/etcetera,
And even if Yari hero succeds in attacking a cav so can they easily just ride away since the heroes few units can't hold them all.

There are no units that I haven't used and haven't found value for, for any point value.

Yari Ashigaru are still useful through all point values as they are the only unit that has spear wall formation, which is a very powerful ability, and they have sheer numbers which can be superior to Naginata or Yari Samurai in some cases.

Light Cavalry fit a neat role in being a very cheap yet very mobile unit. A role that can only otherwise be filled via depleted veteran cavalry.

Fire bomb throwers. look even more awesome than fire rockets. but about 10 times less useful. (when you field one, expect at least 50 kills from friendly fire, maybe 100)

Once you get the 2 vet accuracy upgrade, they'll be like nafftafun from M2TW. Or you can get an ashigaru to tank the friendly fire

I sometimes use them just for novelty. Their range and base accuracy is laughable though.

Edit: Man I should start vetting a unit of 'em.

Yari ashigaru I find pretty useful in 10k/14k because number of units is more important then quality when trying to stop cavalry. Besides at 300 koku a pop, you might as well throw one or two in there as fodder. 22k battles though, you have enough money that you can take naginata's instead.

Anyways a truly useless unit imo is the yari samurai.

It's one thing if you've got an extra 332 for a yari ashigaru, it's another thing entirely to actually want to use them.

If I have the choice I pick almost any other unit besides yari ashigaru outside of 5k battles, even light cav is more effective as fodder.
