Default Maps of Westeros and Essos

Thanks to HBO, we now have the first canon map of the Free Cities and the west coast of Essos. They consulted with GRRM on this map (a larger version, probably extending further east, will be in A DANCE WITH DRAGONS):

A more detailed version of this map and another comparative one showing the two continents can be found here.

I thought this might be of interest to fans, and obviously it opens up the possibility of a future expansion to the mod (or a submod) bringing the Free Cities (and maybe eventually the Dothraki) into the game

Something that might be useful is a combined outline map of Westeros and western Essos:

And the locations of the Free Cities:

I'm imagining an entire continent with just the "Targareyn" faction and a whole bunch of rebel cities.

No faction competition. Just tons and tons of rebels.

Somehow I doubt that would be the best decision balance wise but it seems like it would be fun.

Once again please dont implement Essos until at least version 2.0 but you could implement plenty of factions in the game. The free cities could each be a faction and there are a couple that are usually at war. Dothraki could be a faction where their only starting city is Vaes Dothrak and it just covers the entire Dothraki sea. You could have one faction of slavers bay including Astapor Yunkai and Meereen. Etc.

There's certainly enough scope to have different factions on Essos. For a start, each of the Free Cities (and the Free Cities are really mini-countries with smaller towns and settlements subordinate to the main city) is a distinct culture by itself, then you have the Dothraki, the Qartheen, the Ghiscari, the Lhazareen and so forth. How much fun it would be I'm not sure, but it would certainly be challenging.

It would be cool to have a separate campaign for Essos independent of Westeros

    Welcome to TWC.
I don't know how that would be fun since it wouldn't be challenging.

I think I'd find it more fun not playing as them, because just when everything is going well and I'm conquering the Seven Kingdoms, all of a sudden this huge faction will be ready to attack me from the East.

Though I agree, I would rather have this in a later edition.

Don`t worry, we certainly won`t include the eastern factions in the next version.

I think the release date of TATW applies to this mod as well, so here it goes:

WESTEROS: TOTAL WAR RELEASE DATE: WHEN ITS FRIGGIN' DONE!
The friendly neighbourhood hobo with a shotgun of Westeros: Total War, bringing the Game of Thrones to life!

    I like you Zoran.

Be assured that the team is also fervently waiting for the mod. But due to our often busy real life shedules we can`t always work as fast as we`d like to.

Currently we are redoing the Starks, hopefully creating a beautiful and exciting faction in the process.

I as well agree that the East should not be added until everything is done. I agree with the proposal of making every free city an independent nation and with the idea for the Dothraki faction. Slaver's Bay should either be one faction or Three and the Targaryens should be a horde type faction with a largish army. I believe all of them should be playable in the regular mode. I also have the idea of the Targaryens appearing in control of Astapor via event at a certain point. Also, I think it would be interesting to have only someone who has claimed Kingship in Westeros should be able to interact with the factions across the Narrow Sea, unless they invade Westeros.

I have already thought about potential units, factions, etc. in the East. Sadly, it`s still out of reach, since we have to finish westeros before we might consider modding in the east. But the potential is there.
