I had a registry problem a few days ago....It was so frustrating I had to reformat. Something imbedded itself into a .dll and made my life hell and a lovely bootlock to top off the sundae of fun!

Unfortunately I don't know of any good FREE registry recovery programs, the only ones I know of cost money.
One of my friends has been having similiar problems, he was too cheap to pay for one and now has system full of viruses, trojans, and registry problems.

check your fans, dead fans or bad PSU's can cause seemingly random crashes, otherwise if your registery is that messed up, you may want to consider doing a clean format (I do my machine at least once a year). Also, if you decide to format the system, you may wish to consider getting a copy of XP with most of the updates(at least SP2) slipstreamed into it, it will save you a lot of time and headaches.
