    Default An Impossible position

    The year is 1568
The Date clan after years of agressive expansion has made a push on Kyoto to legitimate their claims on the Shogunate.
Pushing out and capturing Omi as a stepping stone to Kyoto the Date find themselves confronted with the massed armies of a coalition of Clans - YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

The Date have reached to far and too greedily and now find themselves in "an impossible position"

    Can you win from here?

Ive fought losing battle and tried clicking some seasons and I cannot find a way out of this position which I have gotten myself. If you succeed Id really like to hear how you achieved it. Good luck

Are those rebels or enemy stacks with winter attrition? Do you have a navy? What I'd recommend doing is abandoning Omi, putting 2-3, units in Owari and Mino. Recruiting as much as you can, meeting up with what's left of what you have in Omi now that you don't send to defend multiple sieges, and leapfrog your way to the remaining 2-4 provinces needed, most likely in those unguarded Hatano lands, as you've already forced an invasion from them and they're distracted. They will run into a wall in Mino and Owari.
The thing about those Hatano provinces is a half a stack in two castle towns, should cover four, that should hold out long enough for you to ignore Omi altogether, and sit in Kyoto with a 3/4 stack for a year, all you'll need for the short campaign.
It looks to be possible that way. Good luck to whoever takes this.

Abandon Omni, and move up with your forces towards Echizen. Rout the armies there, then slap together some kind of army around Mino. That's what I would do.

Once you've regrouped, fight whatever remains of their armies in Omin district, and make a fresh push to Kyoto.

I wouldn't say so. In fact, I always watch that trade is simply surplus income, and my army upkeep is fully covered by domestic production plus at least a couple thousand. By that point, without trade, he should have four veteran stacks, largely enough for the rest of Japan.

Owari and Echizen are two perfect choke point to station your armies if you dont have a strong navy. I defended against 8 stacks with my 3 stacks as Oda in legendary at Owari. Hold there for some turns to worn out attacking forces, they will eventually run out of troops (relatively), then you can make a push for Kyoto.

    Thanks for the replys

Im looking for someone to continue on from the save game provided, which is 1 turn on from the screenshot, after 3 stacks of the alliance of other clans seige Omi, if the battle for Omi is lost, recovering from that position will be v hard, particularly with no money.

No they arnt rebels they are other clans.

So unfortunately I cant abandom Omi cause Im under seige there, hence the impossible position - if my main army wasnt stuck in Omi, then they are many possibles senarios for winning. However, the position is as it is in the save game - Im interested to see if anyone can/has the skill to get out of this position.

May I ask why do you have so few coins left in your treasury with half Japan under your rule? 1568 is pretty deep into the campaign, havent you stopped your expansion once to reinforce what you had?

Most likely because he pushed without developing his infrastructure, which in this game is a death sentence.

Abandoning Omi is a must, because you have 4 territories that create a "front" for the AI to attack (Omi, Kaga, Owari, Mino). By digging in at Kaga, Owari, and Mino, you can try to develop your infrastructure. Although, I would like to just slap you for not doing so...

After realm divide, if you have no allies, frankly, it isn't hard to have no income, no matter your level of development.

Without trade, it is almost impossible to support and army and have treasure.

Seeing as how he has half of Japan, he wouldn't have any problem if he built up his infrastructure beforehand. He appears to have only one army, half of Japan, 817 income, and 1 surplus food. This tells me that he didn't have the infrastructure to keep up with his expansion.

In my last Oda game on legendary, at the point I owned almost half the map I ve practically won the game with +1.5k income, 5 armies on 3 fronts and no vassal, no trade partner - all while constantly pumping out new units to replace casualties. Its not hard really - remember to pay attention to your farm development and be content with what you already had sometimes.

    Thanks for the replys

The history is this I expanded out to Hojos lands because he declared war and was attacking me and my trade routes. I then got the divide and started losing 1k per turn - I had to expand more to sack towns just to stay in the game. Usually the AI had upgraded the infrastucture more than I had in the provinces I took. Yes I agree at some point I shouldve stopped and consolidated but the losing money thing sort of forced my hand.

Yes it wouldve been nice to have had another save before I ventured to Omi, but hindsight is always 20-20

Besides which iof I had done any of the things suggested I wouldnt have gotten into the impossible position - the point of this isnt to examine how badly I played the game to get to this point or what I shouldve done - the point is can anyone get out of it? Its a challenge not a self flagelation session.

    hence the save game

otherwise I wouldve titled the post "where did I go wrong"

but thansk for the advice anyway - I will take it on board for my next campaign

I do agree with one of the guys - once you get realm divide its hard to make enough money to support enough armies to defend against all the AIs at once.

Sally out like its the last hurrah, aim for the camp of the enemy taisho, tear down his banners in his maku, make his army despair at your desperate actions, do not fall back nor run from the fate of an honorable battle rather confront it with zeal befitting warriors of the Date Clan, make proud your ancestors of old, the Date Clan, the Minamoto Clan well maybe the Fujiwara but thats another story. Make your men be like the living embodiment of Hachiman....wait Bishamonten, I meant Bishamonten, howling like a charging horde of demons against the arrayed yari of the enemy. The enemy will be cut down like falling leaves of the autumn season, for nothing can stop the indomitable spirit of the Date even at odds like this. Come now, don your armor, hold unto to that gunbai war fan and signal the taiko drummers to sally out the men.

Ok.............if that didnt worked, reload that last save.

(Its clickable by the way....An S2 overhaul mod.)

Seriously. Click it. Its the only overhaul mod that's overhauling enough to bring out NEW clans

You should hold Omi anyway it is one of the most strategically located cities on the map and will protect you while you consolidate. Your army there should be able to hold out continue to develop its castle and encampments etc.

In the meantime get an army to Echizen and take that ... at that point with a decent garrison in Owari and Echizen you will have a very secure home base. Now get 1-2 armies to back up the garrison in Omi when the AI has besieged you yet again you take the 1-2 stacks and attack rinse and repeat. I think you actually have an excellent position and should be able to win easily as you have plenty of time still as well.

If you have that much land behind you, you should have enough infrastructure built up to support you. You cannot depend on trade deep in the game, you need self sufficiency to a certain extent.
