    Icon4 The importance of markets!

I was having trouble with S2TW's economic system....I just couldn't figure out what was wrong..I captured trade nodes, I recruited few units and still I bearly reached 4K per turn.....So I thought definetly something is missing and then by chance I built a Guild Market in one of my provinces and I found that after a few turns that province just poured out 1200 Koku per turn!!! I was amazed so I tried this in a new campaign and I finally managed to have a decent 12K per turn in a Takeada hard campaign.....So to all of you having trouble with your economy, build markets and upgrade them and you will see the difference and also try to upgrade your farms as well...the results are amazing.

actually if you were capturing trade nodes and only earning 4k you were doing it wrong. More trade ships on a node yields more resources which means you sell more to trading partners. A trade node should easily earn 3k+ money.

    What he said.
If you dont put 10 ships you are not getting all you can. I have seen people say only put 4 or 5, cant understand why you would. Trade ship cost 100, with an UpKeep of 48. No matter what math you use, you make money.

    Rice exchange = 500 wealth + Merchant guild = 500 will give you 1000

Perhaps you are not making money because you need more people 2 trade with.

Totally pointless. Once Realm Divide hits, you are totally on your own, with the possible except of vassals.

So, much better not to rely on trade partners, since once RD comes, you will need to be able to stand on your own.

Well the point is 2 get money b4 the RD hits, but thats just me. As I control when the RD kicks in I cant see why you think its pointless 2 get money, but we all play the way we want. No one said rely on trade anyway........lol
The OP was talking about " captured trade nodes" I think I could be wrong, but its pointless

this tbh. RD breaks pretty much the early and mid game.

my eternal thanks to the EB team for making R:TW such an epic game, and to TWC and all other modders for pushing the boundaries with each Total War title .

When you don't have trade partners you still make money out of unsold trade goods. I had the five western trade nodes occupied with four ships each and after the RD I still made 7500 gold (which cost me 1300 gold in upkeep and no trade partners).

The best way to make money is farmland. There are some very rich agricultural regions that make a lot of money. Most of them are located in western Japan.

Playing as Mori on VH, I captured three trade nodes and they brought me (with 4-5 trade ships/node) nearly 5 or 6K . But after I started constructing the Guild markets my tax revenues have reached the roof....you can check the province tablet for more info, usually after constructing a rice exchange you get an extra 1000-1500 of wealth in the region which greatly affects your tax revenues...

I am pretty sure that either the rice exhange or the guild gives u that amount...anyway the benefits you get makes the investment woth it.

I would be lying if I gave an exact amount at the moment, but droppin one bow ship, one rune and 5 trade ships into a trade point wowed my income and repeated the wowing with each trade point added. Also, if you really want a booming economy, research CHI first and then do the top three rows before adding in some from the other side. I must have lost my first 20 games due to crappy economy and over recruiting just trying to defend myself. Oh, and just because you can upgrade your castle town does not mean you should! ROTFLMAO!!! I keep my Castle town one level below the currently operating farm level and rarely have food shortages with those being in only newly taken regions.

Meh, you can get post-RD vassals to trade with, so those nodes will always be hugely valuable. Plus you need em for higher level buildings.

No but it helps prepare you for RD by having a healthy trade going to develop your cities ... just make sure that by the time RD hits you that your army and navy expenditures are covered only by taxes if they are then you will have no financial trouble by losing your trade partners along the way at all.

I managed to keep two of my allies after Realm Divide. Still racking up over 10k in trade. Normal difficulty though

Playing as Chosokabe, the max trade partners one can have is 4 (assuming the player takes the whole starting island, not leaving one or two provinces as vassals). So, when RD happens, I have 4 dedicated trade-vassals and all my trade goes to them, bringing me to about 15,000 in profits during the Divide... That's on VH.

Thanks I will try them soon. When the game first came out we all got raped by the RD thing, some just need a little counseling 2 get over it. That was so traumatic they still fear RD.

umm..i can't believe after 21 posts nobody mentioned this...

building rice exchange/merchant guilds decreases wealth in most games...even the market is pretty useless.
