Very Unusual Total System Crash in battles

Hello,

I have just upgrade my PC and have loaded up NTW again but I am getting a very unusual and random crash during battles... The worst thing is that most of the time it totally crashes the system and I am forced into a hard restart. The Music continues to run but the game is frozen and I cannot get back to the desktop.

The crash is quite random - and I can often play through numerous battles before it suddenly crashes.

At the point of the crash the game freezes and I can see a stream of pixcelated graphic across the screen - which eventually clear up. Although the game remains frozen. I would love to post a screen shot... but unsurprisingly this is not possible.

I have played around with the settings a bit but to no real avail (Admitidly there are a lot of settings and I am hardly running a controled experiment... as I dont really know what I am doing. )

But the game for all intense and purposes runs very smoothly even on Ultra settings so I am at a loss...

Here are the specs I have.

Intel i7-2600K CPU @3.4 GHZ
RAM 4 GB
64 bit operating system Windows 7 Professional
Nvidia GTX 470

I noticed that some people have managed to post a tech dump of their specs... I am happy to do this. But I actually dont know how?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers for Win 7, 64bit?

... I cheated with this build and had it put together for me.

Is there a way to check?

Did your builder give you all the discs including the motherboard's and graphics card's?

Yeah I have the asus mother board cd... so I have re-installed the drivers. But I could nt specifically locate the win7 64 chipset drivers. It was pretty much automatic.

Its a P8P67LE box says windows 7 ready.

I went online and there appears to be some new drivers for ASUS and I am looking at installing them now.

Ok - I went to download the file "Intel Chipset Inf Update Program V9.2.0.1015 for Windows 32/64bit XP/Vista 32bit/Vista 64bit/Win7 32bit/Win7 64bit--(WHQL)." from the ASUS website... and interestingly it was already there in my download folder. I guess the Chap was quite dilligent in the build... I am presuming this is what you were referring to?

Try Nvidia's 263 drivers. They seem to be more stable than the 266 drivers you have.

But I have downloaded the 263 drivers but I am having a mare of a time trying to install them.

The software cant find a compatible graphic card and bugs out of the installation...

I tried deleting my old drivers and it still did nt work... How can I get my system to accept the old drivers?

I wonder how much of your problem is the i7 and Optimus Technology not allowing it to be recognized.

i7 and Optimus Technology is all new to me, in fact more than my budget at the moment.

Since the Optimus is Nvidia's along with the card and drivers, I would suggets asking them.

Ok well this is not a Totalwar only problem... Napoleon, Shogun II and now Dragon age 2 all crash in the same way. Except Dragon Age 2 let me get to desktop and this was the problem signature that windows gave me... it does nt mean anything to me but thought you might be able to understand it? 4gb ram should be enough depending on what you have running in the background including MSN.

Have you updated the directx 9.0c?

Have you ruh Windows Update manually just to see what software options there are to install?
