New Idea for New Total War?
Total war these days are a tad predictable. While still awsome, more innovation couldn't hurt.
1) Use a campaign similar to Civ series
Civ's system of Campaign is always awesome, but the battle is lame
2) More units, as in bigger army but not the sense of bigger unit cards, but the ability to have bigger armies all together so siege battle won't be lame.
3) Be able to move further, I mean in shogun 1 turn is 1 season, who takes 3 month to move 200 men 20 kms.
4) supply line, have to have a functional supply line and food to sustain army. No food will result in desertion and close to 0 moral.
5) diplomacy as in AI accepts peace or vassel if you strike a big victory over them.
6) if you are at war with multiple countries they form a coalition and they will form a plan to attack at several directions at the same time.
7) I think i remember there's this RTS that has a battle planner where you can plan an offensive, in rome you should be able to set routes for your allies or your allies for you depending on prestige of your nation the one with more gets to be leader and decide the routes.
8) if someone breaks the plan then the AI will start to retreat and the attacked nation will start there own offensive.
9) retreating should have a devastating effect on moral.
maybe more think think think

I like most of these ideas, especially the movement and supply line ones. A large army requires an incredible amount of supplies, that needs to be better reflected. Another way you could maybe show this is by only giving armies a limited time out in the field or in enemy territory, or if in enemy territory, less supplies reach the army due to raids or such.
