When sieging a settlement you get the option to build sap points. These points allow a unit to undermine a section fo walls, making them collapse. Only units with the can sap ability can use sap points.

that means most infantry but sap points are not histricaly acrrate and doin with ladders and towers with covering fire from catupults make it excellent battle scene

Hey guys,
I have a few questions about sapping (and the other siege techniques) against stone walls in RTW:
1. Sapping points - Against stone walls, sapping points seem to work perfectly for me. In fact, that specifically raises my question: What are the drawbacks or limitations, if any, against the use of sapping points? In my very limited experience so far, sapping points seem to be 100% effective in punching holes in stone walls. (So, why would one use any other technique?)
2. Battering rams - In contrast with wooden walls, which may be battered down at any point along the perimeter, it appears that stone walls can only be assailed by battering rams at the wooden gates. (If so, it appears that battering rams are not the best siege technique, due to their relative flammability, as has been widely noted by others.) Is that correct?
3. Siege towers/ladders - These siege techniques seem OK, but result in perhaps higher casualties during the assault (e.g., relative to sapping points which effectively breach the wall) and obviously don't permit all types of units (e.g., cavalry) to enter.
So, my main question is: Since sapping works so well, why use any other technique? (What are the drawbacks/limitations to sapping?)
well with sap points you destroy part of walls so you must spend some (very low) amount of money to repair them
with towers and/or ladders you capture city without damaging it and if infantry captures the gates you can move your cavalry units into the city
use towers or ladders to take the gateways and towers close to the sap point. if u only use the sap your troops will take fire from the towers. Personally i rarely use sap points. it's usually easier to take the gateway
I'm an idiot with sap points. Because i get my army on the top with ladders, then i move my soldiers over the sap point and, when the walls come down, so do at least 40 of my men
in campgain sap points can be used on epic, large and stone wallsOriginally Posted by hellheaven1987
a gothic hord attacked me once, i had no men on the walls as i was gettin attacked from to sides and didnt have enough men, so they take the gate house but are still sapping the enemy genral is 2 close 2 the wall and some rubble falls on his headsaved me the trouble of killing him
